Breed characteristics and traits?

Looking into getting into Coon hunting. Was curious if people had a general idea of the different styles of various breeds. Not trying to start an argument about who is best but more about the different running and treeing styles and traits of each. This would be a family dog as well inside with my beagle and young kids. Do different breeds hunt closer or farther or what are their differences??? My only experience is hunting with a buddy that only has redbones. Looking to get an older retired female that has some titles and is good in a house setting to learn.

All of the different breeds cover a very wide spectrum of traits. Your idea of an older dog is very good, especially for a beginner. Look for an older dog that is calm natured and is a decent hunting dog, it really doesn't need tittles to be what you are looking for. Try the dog out by it's self and with other dogs before buying, and DON"T be in a hurry to buy!! Get to know the dog before buying if at all possible.
