Well

I'm not a bigtime dog trainer but have trained a few pleasure hounds.I use mainly dead coon drags leaving the cage coon for a last resort for dogs that are a little older.

This being said, your dog showed enough interest that there is hope of it being a coon dog,but its still a bit young.I will cull a dog that doensn't at least show this much interest at 10mos.

I'm sure you've read about "super coon dogs" that have never shown interest in a cage coon.Granted they might tree coon and tree coon well,it doesn't make them a coondog anymore than me traing a lab to tree coon does. They have to have a natural urge from proper breeding to be coondogs. You know what real breeders say, coondogs are born not trained.

I trained a birddog to climb a ladder and ring a bell once but thats another story.
