Garmin alpha

Can you use the dc30 and dc40 collars with the alpha?

Do you think Garmin will come out with a collar just for tracking for the alpha? 300 is high for a collar.

I would sure hope they would. What have they determined about carrying an Alpha on a cast? Who needs a shock collar everytime they turn a dog loose?

I would say it will be a year or more before we see a track-only collar. Garmin will want to sell down all their inventory of Astros and DC-40's before a track-only TT-10 type collar hits the market. I could be completely wrong but I wouldn't hold my breath too long waiting.

I will say after using my Alpha a couple weeks it is a big improvement over the Astros. Plus having the tone and shock on the same handheld is a bigger help than I would have thought before using it.

As far as I know Garmin has no plan to make a track only collar for the Alpha system.

Virgil, I completely agree. Garmin won't produce a "track only" collar until they discontinue the Astros, but as long as they are still making the Astros they probably won't even consider it. Currenlty if you are in the market for a "track only" GPS, then you should probably just consider buying an Astro because they are cheaper.

Compatability

so what I am reading is that Garmin failed to make the new system backwards compatable with thier older hardware?
If this is the case they really missed thier mark! Personally I would buy a new Alpha and 1 TT collar right now IF i could track my DC-40 collars with the new handheld unit. They basically isolated anyone with a 220 who is not willing or financially capable of all but trashing thier old unit.
