Dog goes hunting, strikes and carries track, locates and trees. Trees for more then 5 min. When hunters arrive dog is in a hole and the coon is seen in the hole. Does it pass? If your ukc rules it should

Good question.. I have one to, we know that if a dog is working a track when the hour expires that he gets an extra 15 minutes, 12 minutes into this 15 the dog gets treed. The question is how much shine time can we use to find the coon?

@ Smoke... yes, dog is plussed @ John.... shine time is " a reasonable amount of time" and you can use it to shine even if hunt time is over

I am sure I saw womewhere that Todd or Alan one said that holing a coon track in the ground, even if the coon was seen in the hole, did not meet the requirement for treeing a coon in a Hunt Test. Anyone else recall seeing that?

"A dog may receive credit if the coon is found in a tree no more than one tree away where a coon could have legitimately crossed over."

We have said since day one that the dog can only be passed for treeing a coon in a tree and staying treed for 5 minutes. I think the original logic was that it doesn't take as much treeing instinct for a dog to stay treed in a hole with a coon 3 feet from his face. We are simply trying to reward dogs that tree and stay treed with the game in a tree.

Hunt tests are supposed to be the KC way of really determining a coondog. If that's so, this should be counted, certainly!
