Thanks guys, been helpful. I don't hunt enough hunts for it to pay but was considering the resale attraction. I don't see how your winning 100-150 for a 10-15 dog entry hunt. Maybe your math is better than mine.
If I had an idea where you are from or where you compete, I could give a better estimate but lets just say your local clubs don't draw real well and your dog can scrape out an occasional cast win in the reg. hunt. You enter a local hunt, register class, draw out with 7 other dogs and and luck your way into a 2nd place. That gives your dog .4 Performance Points. At the usual $100 per point that is where it has been ending the year, that is $40 for your 2nd place against 7 other dogs. That covers the cost of lifetime nomination to the program and probably your entry fee or most of it. Just for squeezing out a cheap cast win with your basic chiteater. Get it?
Now if you got a GOOD dog and your local clubs draw 20 dogs to a hunt, well......it just gets better.
As for the math, the program has been ending the year at around $100 per point and will probably continue to. At $100 per point, a 10 dog 1st place pays $100, the same 1st place with 15 dogs pays $150. That's the math, yours or mine.
