Morning

I love to hunt in the mornings, you can tell alot more about what your dogs are doing and they also have to trail more it seems...

Some of the best and wildest coon hunts I've ever been on are morning hunts. Sure is pretty watching that sun come up with a hot cup of coffee in your hand an listening to hounds Treeing (close by)... Makes want go tomorrow.

I get off work at about midnight and get to the woods about 1:00.I like the hunting at that time of night. My partner gets off at 2:00 so it works out real nice.

In the summer months, I only hunt mornings as it is so hot in the evenings. I typically dump the dogs at 5:00 to 5:30 AM and hunt til about 8:30 unless the wind get up to high. If the wind stays down and it does not warm too fast will hunt past 9:00. You will not hit many hot tracks but your dogs will have to learn to trail.
Thanks for watching CARNIVORE.
Adios,
Gary

.

I trained one pup here a few years back with about 90% morning hunts. My only problem is I did not find the coon as many of the trees were either dens or big Bay Trees we have in the swamps down here. This dog went on to win 4th in the SS hunt but in my opinion missed too much. I always thought the morning hunting and not knowing for sure if the coon was there and not being able to correct her young was a factor. You guys see a lot of coon after daylight?

I don't see many moving after daylight but I catch any where from two to 6. A lot of your success will be dictated by the active feeding times that can be found in the solunar tables or many GPS or Garmin systems.
Adios,
Gary

I have hunted the last three mornings and caught two one morning and three each of the last two mornings. It is extremely dry as it has not rained since early July. I am finished by 8:30 AM as it is up in the 80's and wind gets up.
Adios,
Gary
