Post Weaning....

Do you ever put the female in contact with the pups again? I just don't know what the appropriate practice is. Thanks

All the litters I've raised atleast 1 & up tp 4 pups were incontact w/mom.
On a free range bases that is.
Just curious........
whats the logic behind a no-contact practice?

Well I sure don't have any logic for it at all. Some years back, Tim Ball wrote a thing about pup raising that said after 49 days they should never see mom again unless they draw her in a hunt. So I took it to heart.

Also, I think logic is hugely overrated.

Why not? Isnt it hard on the moms to have her pups on her that long? 3-5 week on puppies can really wear a mom out. I couldn't imagine 7-8 week old pups on one.

I had no choice but to wean our last litter cuz so many people wanted them as soon as they could get them. It wasnt two weeks after I took her away from them they were put back in the lot together and never bothered the mom. They are 5 months now and never seened bothered by it. Momma knows who they are. She still plays rougher with her two then anyone else. Mother Nature tends to them. In a pack they handle all that just fine!

If you don't want Moms teats dragging the ground then take them off if her. If you don't mind sagging teats leave them with her and let her wean them off.

Oh I dont know about that .. At least not with Our hounds .. Everyone of our Bitches have Naturally weaned their pups .. One bitch has had 5 litters and She looks like she has only had one ...

Some of the Other 4-5 you couldn't tell if they have ever welped ..

Plus !!!! I believe Natural Weaning is Part of a Pups Develoment "Which Can be Painful" if they don't adhear to Momma's LAW .............

Well Maybe its the Way we Keep our hounds that makes them Different ..

The weaning Bitches are Loose to Run with the rest of the pack thru out their time ..

"Their not Kept in a Kennel"

Wild like a bunch of Wolfs .. Not to many Wolfs or other Canis are Draging a Bunch of Saggy TITTS ....
