Winter classic ideas??

Why doesn't the UKC make the Winter Classic a moving national? Like different clubs bid for it and draw up a plan and host it with a host hunt/ bench show before the winter classic. Then it's not set it one spot and different ppl will have a chance to go every year?! I feel like then there wouldnt be as much controversy. I show dogs in the akc as well as hunting and local clubs bid to have the national show hosted by them 2 years before the actual show. Then maybe it would help local clubs too.. JMO

I am only guessing, but

An event of this caliber has to rely on more than just bidding. I am sure there was so much thought and investigation of the area, that it couldn't be done on an annual basis to pull off an event of this magnatude and be successful. I know it must have been devastating for the people of Georgia and the surrounding area, but for every one that was heart broke, there has to be 3 or 4 that are saying that it is finally close enough to attend.

I doubt that.

Also I dont think the hunt could move around. I mean you got to put alot of people in the woods. This hunt was more or less set in stone and had its roots deep in GA. This allowed cast to be guided easily and everyone that was a part of that knew what had to be done every year. I dont think you could just put in anywhere and somewhere different every year and everyone be able to put 600 dogs in the woods. Im sure the folks in MS are already trying to get everything together. Seems like they are somewhat lucky to already have such a big PKC following so you know they have the hunters but not everywhere is like that. If it was moved it would have to go between a set of pre dertemined locations that could put that number of dogs in the woods. Basically it would be a huge logistics problem moving it every year.

If anything this move should tell you UKC will do as they please without hearing any pros/cons from the public or even the host club/location this thread is useless-They do as they wish and expect you to follow

they could have moved it up the road to Perry Ga. We show pigs in perry and they have more barns, arenas, hotels, and food than you can shake a stick at. All vendors could be inside and the show people can have a arena all to themselves. Heck they would not even have to see the hunters if they didn't want to. I think UKC did a very poor job by not investigating or doing there homework to try to keep it in ga. i aint mad, just don't understand i guess

Pretty nice facility there in Perry. I've been there several times. Seems to me it could hold such an event quite nicely. Haven't ever been to the one in Miss. It probably is a nicer location all considered. As others have said, it was a business decision. My heart is not broken over it.

Perry (It's right off I75), Yes. Even Moultrie Ga @ Spence Field (It's an old Air Strip). Straight shot from I-75. Maybe @ 20 miles. They have The Sunbelt Expo there everyear (Hugh International Ag Show), Big Car Show & Exchange and Large Art & Craft Shows, etc.

lol.. Hearing everybody complain over the years that all you get is a dust collector from UKC is funny to me.. Most of the time these are the same people that have tried to win the dust collector for many years until UKC does something they dont like and then its just an old dust collector.. Well we can all say what we want but no other registry is even close to UKC.

As far as moving hunts around, I dont know all the details as far as business decision but what I do know is hunts that stay in the same spot as opposed to moving every year are far more successful as far as attendance goes. Hunts like AO have numerous entries and also have a lot of people sight seeing, buying new equipment etc.

jmo, but if they want to move winter clasic thats fine. they need to be fair about it though. go ahead and start planning right now and move ao. and grand american also. dont just move wc. move all three hunts and just be fair about it. that way ( as some people on here have stated) everyone from all over the country has a chance to attend the hunts. or better yet , lets do them like a traveling road show. a different state each weekend. that way it can go everywhere. and EVERYONE can go. winter classic somewhere other than albany ga is not the winter classic. it is just another hunt in a different state. i hope batesville all the luck but i dont think they have any idea exactly how big or how much traffic is going to be there. or how many people are going to be there either. again JMO mike orourke

I agree with that. I like the idea of moving all the large hunts after they've been at a certain location a few times.
