David,

It is,without question, too hot to hunt a dog in this oppressive heat.Heck,I know I can't stand it.I'm sure they can't either.

way to hot to be hunting a dog of any kind in this heat. i have even held off working young dogs in the yard because of the heat. woke up this morning and it was already 89 and high will be 102 here in south ga. maybe round september we can get a break in the heat.

Don't know about NC but I have lived in Indiana for 57 years and it has never gotten too hot to hunt here.

99 at turn out time? I would say that was too hot even for a dog or man in good health and good shape. True, if either is use to it, it makes a huge difference, but IMO too much is too much!

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

those dogs better get used to it because it will still be that hot in september down in Louisiana for the world finals. we hunt every year in 100+ temps down here. i don't like it and don't think anyone ever gets used to it, but it is what it is. we need rain realy bad down here, so please keep us in your prayers.

thanks

eddie

That is the thing about up here, sure it was 91 and 88 a couple nights when we turned loose but the humidity was fairly low. It was sure uncomfortable but not unhuntable.

Come on over to NC you can cut the humidity with a knife and that doesnt let up.

I did set out weekend before last when it was 110. Couldn't handle that. My old dog is to old for this heat. Just hunting a pup. Could use rain a lot more than cooler weather right now. Fri night was hottest I've got. Humidity was 70% and about 88. Thought I was gonna sweat away The dogs ran one hard for a few hundred yards. Man it was rough on em. Much hotter than it was that night. I'll have to find something else to do.

my rule of thumb.
when the temp. & humidity
reach over 150 combined
Aint droppin a dog!

e.g.
temp. 99*
humidity 76%
combined = 175
just what I go by.

i aint been hunting to much lately cause of the heat. youll have more to loose then to gain by hunting them in this weather. there will a lot of nights ahead that you can hunt and not take a chance of hurting or killing your dog.

David I can't say it ever gets to hot to hunt, but I do know i have slowed some in this record heat we have been having. As for the dogs, just like people, I firmly believe it is in the conditioning you do along the way. You would not expect a Football player to go out and perform at his best with no conditioning or practice for a month before the game. To me, its the same witht the hounds. Feed good feed, and i think we both agree on what type that should be, keep them hydrated, and hunt. It is hard, but it pays off. Drawbacks down here is diamondbacks.. lol

PS: Older i get, the less i feel like hunting in the heat, and when i do, i usually try to go where there is a little bit of water to lay down in..
