California Needs Your Help - Phone Calls Needed!!
Some of you may not know there is a Senate Bill going thru our Legislature right now, SB 1221 that will BAN THE USE OF HOUNDS FOR BEAR & BOBCAT HUNTING. It also gives Game Wardens the authority to kill any dogs they suspect are harrassing bear/bobcat without proof or any recourse.
This bill passed out of the Senate and has moved to the Assembly.
On Tuesday the 26th, SB 1221 was heard, and approximately 600 houndsmen/women were there and voiced there opposition to the bill. The bill was called for a Vote and DID NOT recieve the majority of votes it needed to pass. It recieved 6 "YES" votes from the Democrats, 4 "NO" votes from the Republicans, and 2 Democrats "OBSTAINED" from voting, 1 Assembly Member was absent. In a highly unusual and questionable move, Senate Bill 1221 will be granted a special session and a FIFTH call for a vote on Monday, July 2, 2012. The odds are stacked against us, and the HSUS and Senator Lieu the bill's author are pressuring them hard to get this bill to pass.
Please call these Assembly Members as many times as you can between now and Monday, and simply (and POLITELY) ask them to "OPPOSE SB 1221". You can leave messages over the weekend/after hours and Faxes would be great!
