coyote running with dog
Had an interesting hunt tonight. Hunted a young dog by herself tonight. On the first drop I heard some coyote howling/barking. Not a hunting spot that that is common, but I assume a yote will be anywhere. After the first drop drove a mile down into a new area. Cut the dog loose. She got in about 500 yards and started working. She is pretty tight on the ground by herself so I could only tell she was working by the Garmin. She worked a fenceline, then back towards me and to the big river. When she came back up from the river I put my light on bright thinking I might jump in the truck and cruise down the lane and catch her. And I see two sets of eyes when the light hits her. She heads into a bean field. I watch her and another set of eyes head out across the beans. She is leading by less than 15 feet. [She has reflective collar, so I can tell she is out ahead of the other set of eyes]. She gets back to fence row and is working around. Now gets treed. I drive around the field and can get within 300 yards. Walk in and see yote up close. Maybe at 75 yards. He/she lingers while I leash dog at tree, shine, find coon. Let the dog tree for 5. Yote is gone when I get dog unleashed from fence row. She had to have been in close proximity to yote for at least 7-10 minutes. No bite marks, and she was not spooked.
