Rules did change

I seen in CB that they did change the rules for this years world hunt; more zones and going to use hunting judges. Good thing or bad thing, I dont know we'll see.

I think it is a good thing

Reason being if you don't understand how hard it is to get that many folks together at a event as big as this then you need to try it. If not for the help of Darrell Brown in our club we could not put on such hunts. Darrell does a outstanding job getting these folks together and not only getting enough together but qualified judges and guides as well. Now all we have to have is the guides which we have never had a problem before. Don't get me wrong it took a great effort from everyone in our Club to put on the World Hunt last year and the Zones this year but Darrell done the leg work. I think UKC is going in the right direction. Now everybody in the cast has a say so not just one person. JMO!!!

I believe the zones will qualify dogs for the final weekend based on pecentage of dogs hunting each respective zone. That means some will probably leave the zone hunt not knowing if they are qualified or not. Correct? Anyone know?

They will know at the Zone hunt. We'll know all the totals a week or so before the Zones so the percentages and how many dogs advancing from each will be announced at the Zones. It's definitely the most fair way to do it and it should work out great.

Well, it sounds like it should work. Worth a try anyway. When will the zone locations be announced? Someone will prolly build a computer program to figure out which zones will be cherries.

Jim, I don't think it will matter as to the best of my knowledge the zone you hunt in is determined by where you live according to the dogs registration papers.

I guess you could register it under someone that lives in a particular zone if you wanted to cheat the system, but then that would defeat the purpose as they would be listed as the owner of the World Champ and not you LOL.

Josh, I knew they had added more Zones, just didn't know the part about being able to "pick" the Zone you wish to hunt. To be honest, it never crossed my mind that they would change that aspect of it because of what Jim was thinking about.

In that case Jim it looks like you may have given somebody an idea.

LMBO.

Sheep, there are a couple things that are good about having a hunting judge. First and prolly formost is that it takes alot of pressure off the clubs that shoulder the responsibilty of provideing 50 or more qualified judges that can't hunt in the event. That is no small undetaking. But I think the main reason hunting judges are so popular is because there are alot of handlers that refuse to accept the idea that a judge who has never seen their dog can judge that dog better than they can even though that is very often a true fact. You can get away with more under a hunting jdge....pure and simple fact. Myself, I feel that with as much that is at stake in a World Hunt ( and zones are world hunts) it is unacceptable to be judged by a judge that also has a dog in the cast. Expanding the zones to 8 instead of 5 and letting you choose your zone may work out fine but going to hunting judges was a big misstake.

I agree Jim. It would be like letting a man judge a beauty pageant in which his daughter is a contestant.

Sheep it is like this. If you and the other folks on that cast know the rules then it don't matter who has the card. But if you want to be a big puss and let someone bully you around you will never be able to comp. hunt. JMO!!! Comp hunting isn't as bad as it seems sometimes. Yes it does have it's moment's but for the most part there are some real good folks out there. Most are like me who wants a papered hound not me. Have a Happy New Year.

I hope they post/update the number of entries at each zone throughout the year so I can go to the zone with the most entries.

More entries, the more the chance I'll have of getting to the finals.

I haven't had alot of problems with hunting judges but when I have, it is when you draw a cast with two $hiteaters. An example: drew two dogs that are known for two outstanding traits, they cover anything quick and they miss alot. First two drops those dogs treed two slicks in a row, the other covered. With a decent non-hunting judge, those two are gone before the first hour is up. Because we had a hunting judge, those two got circled 2-2 both times. Spent the rest of the night walking to circle trees. Yes the other two got off by themselves and treed coons but the time wasted walking to empty circles kept the other two from scoring enough points to have any chance at winning the hunt. World Hunts should be judge by a judge with nothing at stake but their reputation.

Jim

I agree. I dont like the idea of hunting judges at the zones. I can see 4 dog cast becoming 2 or 1 dog casts very quick.
