I just tonight asked my wife " do remember back when I was a "coon hunter". She thought a minute and answered; "Yeah vaugely". We then got into the remembering those days when I'd take more time wrapping up for the hunt than the hunt lasted,LOL
In those days we did not have the fancy equiptment of today. and a hunt could last a long time, lost dogs, lost hunters and stubborn dogs and hunters.
In winter months the bottoms of both my feet would get so cold, the skin would loose its elasticity and crack open. Each nite, I'd take super glue and close the cracks, wrap feet with masking tape and put on a thin sock, then a bread wrapper, then a heavy sock before putting boots on.
I have on occasion left home and run into snow drifts that would be high enough to cover the headlights on the pickup.
Once my friend and myself were walking and talking and suddenly discovered that we were walking down the middle of a deep creed, on top of ice. On these nights the dogs treed coon just to spite us and make us walk to them.
Nope, I didn't go tonite was about ready to go and hunting buddy called and backed out. Years ago I'd just gone on alone, but I stayed home, looked out at the moon and convinced myself that TOMORROW nite will be better anyway.
