PKC/AKC...cast win. UKC, you need every point your dog can earn. Never ran across anyone out to annilate.

Jim

I got be honest unless its the ukc world I'll take every point and not lay back one bit until the 120 minutes are up, that goes for PKC also.

Nobody remembers the second place man. to me its first looser.

None of the above. I just call my dog for what it's doin. If it trees first I call it first whether I need the points or not cause that's what the dog did.

I win some and lose more, but at least I know win or lose the dog did it and not me tryin to be a smart handler.

stupid handling loses as many casts as stupid dogs.
ive got plenty of experience in the stupid handling area.

ive seen many casts lost, includeing world hunts, when a guy would have won it if he had only kept his mouth shut.

Elvis, you are 100% correct on that one.

However, the way my luck runs every single time I try and be a "smart" handler it bites me in the butt (in other words do the smart thing and keep my mouth shut and lose out on a 1st and 1st on a coon and get beat at the clubhouse by 25 or somethin). I got tired of feelin bad cause my dog lost on account of me and decided to call it for what it did regardless.

I am competitive as they come and hate to lose, but it bothers me much less to lose knowing it was my dog that screwed up instead of me screwing my dog out of a win LOL.

FOR MYSELF IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION. IN A PKC CAST I JUST TRY TO SQUEEK BY WITH A CAST WIN. IF I'M HUNTING UKC WITH ONLY A FEW CASTS I'LL GO FOR JUST A CAST WIN AND HOPE I WAS IN MORE COONS THAN THE OTHERS. WHETHER A BIG HUNT OR NOT THE GOAL IS TO GET A LEAD ON THE CAST AND MAINTAIN IT. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE 1ST & 1ST ON EVERY COON. IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED HUNTERS THEY'LL KNOW WHICH DOG TREED THE COON. TRYING TO GET 1ST ON EVERYTHING SOMETIMES CAN PUT YOU IN THE WHOLE FAST. THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM NEW HUNTERS HAVE. LAYING BACK IN MY OPINION IS NOT SLICK HANDLING BUT JUST USING YOUR HEAD AND TRYING TO MAINTAIN YOUR LEAD. JMO

I just call

my dog the way he does and sometimes the way he don't. Don't win very much but have a good time trying. If he can put up a high then he will get a high score if he can only score 125 plus then that is what we walk away with unless I have a brain fart and go absolutely crazy as I have been known to do. Sometimes I think the dog needs to be holding the lease. LOL!!!!!!!!

You have to start with the cast win if you lose it you have lost it all.

Play honest. I dont understand the question, call the dog struck and treed and score the points whether its 200 minus or 800 plus.

What exactly can you as a handler do you anilate the competition?
