was wondering if any of you hunt both bobcat and coon with the same dogs? i'm getting my boy ready for coon but i think i would like to go after bobcat from time to time also. if i were to try to do this would i basically be letting him go and guessing what i'm going to be staring at everytime i go to the woods? or is there a way that i could train him to go after certain game when i want him to?
i think i know the answer to this but i would rather differ to you that have been in the game longer than i.

yes but not intentially. LOL I think its possible you may have to do some day night training. Every cat i've ran at night has jumped numerous times. Its like running a boar coon during the rut on steriods.
not on purpose. i have one dog that will start on coon but if she runs across a bobcat or a bear track she will switch over. last time i had her out she treed a young bear.
i also have a bluetick that just loved to run bobcat. got really scratched up by one but sure didn't learn his lesson.

Patches ......Had one that loved a Bear...Traded D. McGinnes for a easy handling cooner...Too old to outrun the WCO,s here in pa. Check out the little mtn music hunt in Blairsville on sat...Nice prizes...A lot better than duct catching Trophys JMO... Tony

I have a bluedog that will bump a bobcat sometimes at night. She got tore up pretty good one night by a bobcat. It about killed her. Didn't break her of it. She will occasionaly jump them now. It's a heck of a race cause everytime the bobcat will jump. Better be prepared to be out all night. LOL
If it were legal to run in her in the day on bobcat, I would had done it.

I hunt my two grandnights on cats in the winter. Tree'd one that weighed 45 pounds this winter. Start on coon first then go into cats. Hunt cats at night , never had one jump but during the day i had them jump. Night time if you got a good tree dog they usually stay, but make sure you start with one game at a time.

It can be done, but the dogs that do it succussfully are few and far between. Cat & Bear go together better. Get the boy a good reliable coon hound, and he will have more fun.

i would love to go to that. i have heard that it is a good time. however it falls on the same day as my club's hunt of a lifetime benefit hunt. so i am going to sinclairville on sat.
but i hope you have good luck and get some of those nice prizes. it would be nice to win one of those dogboxes. they sound really nice.
