jumping and/or running trees

any ideas on dog running and jumping at tree.l...never had this problem so never needed to know how. now w/this one i need to...appears to be getting worse. 1 1/2 yr old male do not wish to use E-collar as am working w/it on another problem somewhat....do not want him confused! thought about tieing back at tree w/loose lead and using pinch collar.

I agree, some you can stop and i'll go one step further and say most you cannot. A couple things to remember about a tree jacker...they sometimes start fights, they sometimes get an otherwise non aggressive dog to start showing aggression at the tree, they can hurt someone else's dog just by falling on it, they have plenty of tree and that is why they do it.
Because they have plenty of tree in them I don't hesitate to use the collar. Treeing is not some sacred act a dog does that cannot be interfered with, at least not to me. If they are jumping up and falling back like an idiot, especially on other dogs then they need to stop and not now, right now. The collar is not a guaranteed fix by no means, but it is worth a try. I have never had any success by flipping the dog back down with a leash...the dog knows you are doing it and that does nothing to stop them when you are not there with a leash on them. Same with the old log chain trick...put it on them and sure they stop, take it off and recast...only to see the dog jack the next tree until you get there with the chain. Why not just leash the dog to the ground??? You already have a leash, you probably have to go buy a chain.
I found that it works best {if it is going to work at all} when you hit the dog BEFORE they actually jump up. The best time is to catch them right when they stop treeing and crouch down on their front legs right before the jump. This is when they are thinking about it and have decided to go, that is what you are trying to get them to associate the shock to.
I don't use full power either, you don't need it. You just want to get the dog to think about something besides completing the jump. Give them something to think about, maybe a reason not to do it.
Do not expect this to work in one try, it could, but in fact it probably may not work at all. If it does the trick it will more than likely be because you did it many times. As far as confusion, I don't know what other problem you are working on, but dogs figure out pretty quick that the collar means one thing...stop what you are doing or it will get worse. If I waited to cure every problem before starting the next most of my dogs would not see the woods. Don't get me wrong, you can confuse a dog with the collar. Just turn it up on full blast and knock him senseless for each mistake, he'll be confused and ruined. Good luck...you are going to need it.

Thank you sir, it is very kind of you to say so. If I was you I don't believe I would hunt with that dog again either. If your luck is like mine that is the dog that will either injure yours or cause it to get aggravated with other dogs at the tree. Now me, I would level with the guy straight up and let him know why. He probably doesn't think it's a problem, and it's not for him at least not at this point.

I have found some of it you can hunt out of them, some of it is correction, however when ever they get thrown in a cast it seems to pop back up. You should be able to curb it though.

You will light break em is all you'll do. You will not stop it. Ive seen this question asked a 1000 times on here. Not once has anybody came back and said. Thanks guys the log chain or lock on chain broke my dog from jacking. Aint gonna happen. Best you can hope for is to slow it down some. The real bad ones will remain bad.

There was a guy named Bob young he trained a dog one time with a shocker on low and I've never seen a dog that straight on tree to this day. He said he jacked the tree bad. I ve never used the idea but I would . I tie them up with a half hitch at there belly. If they are already treein they won't jump any more. Do this repetitive it's worked for me.
