I was at a show a few weeks ago and told my dog was OVER the standard, however when I went to help set the dog straight for the judge to measure him properly, the judge said she has a special way to measure them and I wasn't to touch the dog..........she didn't measure him according to the way in the rule book and she measured him high almost on the neck, and then stood back about 2 feet and read the numbers, she didn't put her hand on the shoulder , she just eyed it up and stood back and looked I politily said if you measure him at the shoulders you will see he is still legal, and she snapped at me and said I am the judge and this is not how I measure and what I say goes and he will not be given any points. I left the show right then and there as I was upset that there is not a set way taught to judges that they measure a dog, I measured him at home ( with the bar the way horses and dogs are judged at AKc obedience events and he is under the limit) but what if any thing can I do if I encounter this judge again?

Dear Clauzilla,

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Our rules say that the Judge's determination of height is final. However, if you feel that the Judge measured your dog improperly, you need to write the Dog Events Department and describe what the judge did wrong. If we have a Judge who does not know how to correctly measure the height of a dog, then we can remedy that situation very quickly--if we know who the Judge is, and what he/she did wrong. You did the right thing by complaining--you just complained in the wrong place. Send your letter to the attention of Mark Threlfall in the Dog Events Department.
