!! HELP--Dogs stolen-- !!!

A buddy had someone break in his kennel on Sunday night, turn all his hounds loose. He recovered all but 2 females. One is a NT.CH. gyp off of Sackett Jr.. The other is the mother to my Slugger pups. The jr. gyp is 7 yrs. old, short, stocky, and a GO-YONDER hound. The other is about 55#, small made, red head, saddle-back with a squeely mouth on track, and a keen chop on tree. He got a call at 7:30 wednesday morning from a man saying he had the dogs. He said his name was Joe Stevenson from Lima Ohio and he was a truck driver. He wanted to know the hounds names and said he had been putting something on female with pups to dry her up (?). He said he would bring hounds home on Monday, but would not give his address or phone number. The number he called from was a pay-phone from Dale, Indiana. Which is South-west Indiana, close to Evansville. Any one from Lima or Dale, please keep your eyes and ears open for someone trying to get shed of these two hounds. Any other info would be great, does anyone know of any dog traders or thieves from either location? You can call 765-945-7288 with any info. Thanks

I live within an hour from Dale, IN I'll keep my eyes open. That is kinda scary hearing about this that close to home. I do know of a dog trader around these parts, but he's been trading dogs for a long time and never heard of him to steal, maybe skinned a few. E-mail me, and I'll give you his name. My e-mail is frazepkc@aol.com He trades alot of dogs and is pretty well-known around here. He may have bought them unknowingly. Hope he finds his hounds

Thanks for info. Can you send me a PM with his name and number. I think we are taking a trip down to that area. It looks like the place is very small, so locating the pay phone he called from should be pretty easy. Then we will start looking with-in a few miles of there. Thanks again and if you hear of anything close to sounding like these gals please let me know.

Thanks for the info and we are thankful for any help. I think the guy is planning on hunting these two gyps. He said he had started drying the one up, and he wanted to know their names. If he had any intentions on bringing them back he would not need to dry her up or know their names. Keep your eyes and ears open for any new hounds in your area. My buddy has a State Police Detective working on it and when we find them, someone will get a free vacation. I think water and bread is too good for the thieves. Thanks

WHAT KIND OF FOOL

Would call someone to ask dog's name and report he was drying the female up to hunt her ??????????????????????????????? This sounds so **** stupid to me as to why call anyone if in fact he is the guilty one. As far as dog traders in that area you can bet your bottom dollar there is, but a place as small as that town is I would be looking for those crooked dog traders instead of a telephone booth that a call was made from. You can get hold of information from your home as to what phone booth and the location the call came from. Good luck in finding the hounds................... my opinion they are long gone from that area..............

I am around Kokomo, Langley is about 1 hr north. We are going down and find where the call was made from and then start checking everywhere in that area.

This guy called my buddy to let him know he had the hounds. But he did not know what kind they were, and he wanted to know all this info on them. He is stupid, but the jail will accept stupid people and as soon as we find him and the hounds that is where he will be, and anyone else involved.

Anyone that lives in that area and passes thru Dale and sees a pay-phone, if you could check the number, any help would be great. At least we will know exactly where the call was made. The number he called from was 812-224-8361.

If any one hears of any new hounds for sale, or sees any hounds wondering around ( this idiot may turn them loose. ), try and catch them and call me, you will be rewarded for your trouble. Thanks 765-945-7288. Just for info, the hounds came up missing at Peru, Indiana. This guy called from Dale, Indiana. That is about 4 hrs south-west. This guy said he was from Lima Ohio.

tw ,there is a truckstop at the exit for dale off I-64 ,most likely he called from there,,
I-64 exit 57 is at the rt. 231 hiway...there is a several steelmills down toward rockport,,this fella may pull flatbed,,
must have hit himself in the head a few times with a binderpipe,or,must be a dummy,,
he dont own the dogs why is he wanting to work the dogs,,ect..
he's got your phone number ,he should have told someone where to come and get the dogs.unless he is totally stupid.

there is a lot of steel comes out of the southbend area and goes to rockport and steel coils out of the rockport area which is south of dale ,that goes to the lima area and other towns along I-75...there is several places that receive steel coils in the lima area,,i'v been to these places when i pulled flatbed..

from what you said ,i'd say he was at the truckstop north of the i64/231 ..you could call information for the lima area and ask if they have the man listed in the lima area ,if that is where he said he lives..

just north of i-24,,on the right side of 31 at the light.
the dogs may have wandered in there and he caught them there,,he may have posted a note at the fuel desk saying he found them with his info on it...lot of drivers stop there ,they have a subway and also a diner in there..

hope this helps

The story sounds a little to dramatic to me

Did the man have the dog's insured? If so this could be an insurance job instead of an actual theft. My 15 year's expierence as a detective I have found people to over dramitize when they are commiting insurance fraud.

No, the hounds were not insured. This man has worked for the city of Peru for 30 yrs. He would never even consider something like that. The older female is very hard for anyone to catch her, unless she is on a tree somewhere. She is direct off of Sackett Jr.

Wild Bill--- The truck stop at Peru that you are talking about is about 5-6 miles from where they went missing.

Thanks and keep any more info coming.

The phone number "(812) 224-8361" is a Dale, IN based phone number and the registered carrier is Cinergy Communications Company

Do you have any pictures? There's lots of Beaglers in that area that might be able to help you out.I'll be glad to post any pictures on the Beagling Boards for you.

Yes, I knew where the payphone was located, thanks though. I do have pictures of the one with pups, and will post them today ( Sunday ). This guy has called from the same pay-phone 2 times, so he lives in the area I think. There are alot of hunters helping out by keeping there eyes and ears open for me. Thanks 765-945-7288

I will be down that way tomorrow and will ask around some I know some locals that may have seen the dogs if they were turned loose. Also there's a humane society at Jasper wich is a short distance away. You might try calling and checking there.

!! Dogs Recovered !!!

My buddy called today. He said he heard his dogs raising hell about 4:30 a.m. this morning, grabbed his gun and went running outside. He gets out to his kennel and guess what he finds, his two missing gyps, tied to the bumper of one of his trucks !!! The guy must have gotten scared, or something caused him to bring them home. I told him he was LUCKY, ''cause I did not think he would ever find them. Thank you for all the help everyone has given. I just with others could recover their hounds this easy. Just wanted to let everyone know. Thanks

Thief !!

I think the guy may have had some local help, from someone my buddy knew. I know that it was not a joke from someone. I dont know how this guy from Dale ended up with the hounds, but I think he realized he should get them home. I think there is a dog thief around Peru somewhere, and I think the guy from Dale is friends with them. My buddy was about to have a BIG STROKE from all of this. It was no joke, and no pranks, just a lot of luck. Thanks

John Y.-- Where do you live ? Maybe we can hook up for a hunt ? 765-945-7288
