The Redbone breed lost one of its best-

Regretfully last Sunday I buried Gr.Nt.Ch. Snyder's Death Row Joe who was found dead in his kennel. He was the hardest hunting coondog I ever saw of any breed and he will be sorely missed by not only myself, but many other guys who had the oppurtunity to try and follow him. Glad I had the experience of owning that kind of hound.

Thusday night he treed 7 coons up three different trees on a fenceline and that was the last time we got to see him go. Thankfully I've got semen collected on him.

My condolence, Joe

Deathrow Joe had more heart than any dog I ever saw. The good ones die young. At least his prodegy will continue. I know that is the main reason Chris let you obtain him. He knew he was not in a position to do him justice and he knew you could get more out of him. He definately is a memorable dog. Anyone that ever drew him, I am sure, remembers him.

Memories of an old Friend.

Emily, there are a million of 'em and I spent most of the other night running them over in my head after Joe called and told me the bad news. I have three that stick out in my mind. Forgive me if I ramble.

-I lost him hunting in February for 4 days as a 1.5 yr. old pup. He was found by neighbor kids out 4-wheeling, he was hung in a fence, rear leg literally frozen solid, weighed about 35lbs. I came to pick him up with a .22 in hand ready to put him down. He saw me, got up off the ground, hobbled over to the tailgate and pathetically tried to get up in the back of the truck. That night, the vet took his leg. A month later he was back treeing coon.

-Taking him to Lagrange last year and showing him in the show for dogs that hunted Thursday night. Having him win his cast Thurs and Friday and feeling the excitement of being on a cast where he had an opportunity to win the big one. Even though he come up short, he gave it his best.

-While handled by my buddy Aaron Wade, On the way back to the trucks a fellow cast member had to stop and throw up due to the rigorous walk he just experienced.

Mostly though, I met a lot of great folks and hunted with some of the most talented redbones in the country all because of Joe. I consider myself a lucky man to have owned one like him. Although not perfect, no dog ever tried harder. In four or five years, he never ever came back in. You would pull him off a tree somewhere.

I'll shut up now. Rest In Peace Old Buddy. And thanks Joe Maitland for the nice work you did with him these last few months. You proved to everybody what I already knew. That he could win on the big stage.

Time to Reload.

Interesting post RC. As most know, Redbones have been my breed of choice since I was a kid. So of course, I have an interest in good Red dogs and hearing stories about the good ones.......Tripod was one of those that I heard some good stories about. One of things I always heard, was how hard of a hunter he was even on three legs. You can't help but admire a dog that has that kind of heart. Always thot some day I might get the chance to see him go. Cherish the memories.....Chris and Joe.

Chris and Joe

I listed you first Chris because when I remember the "TRIPOD" I think of my friend from Iowa and the dog he owned that was one hell of a coonhound. You should be real proud of what you and Maitland have accomplished with "Joe".

Not many people would be willing to sell a dog with that kind of talent. My hat goes off to you Chris for looking at the big picture and really trying to show the redbone folks what kind of a dog Joe was. That was one of the smartest things I've seen anyone in our breed do. And you'll carry my respect for such an unselfish act.

You couldn't have picked a better place to put him than in Maitlands hands. Lord knows he needed a dog like Joe to get back in shape after fattening up all winter.

Joe M. knew what he had at the end of his leash and was smart enough to collect some for the future, another very good move.

These kind are hard to duplicate and sometimes even a pain to own but not many would pass up the chance. I'm glad I got the chance to hunt with him and who knows I might even have a little of the tripod running around my yard some day.

And Joe Maitland ,you know what I mean.

Joe,

Sure sorry to hear the bad news about ol`Tripod. Hope you breed, train, or find another one just like him. The hunting heart, that Joe possessed, is a "gift". Almost, if not, imposible to reproduce. I`ve seen a very few, in the fifty odd years, I have been at this game, that had it, and I have never seen it reproduced yet, and believe me, I`ve tried. Like any great talent, or exceptional physical ability, they either have it, or they don`t. Just consider yourself fortunate to have owned, and enjoyed him, if only for a much to short time. Good luck, Pal.

Butch

Sorry to hear it Guys

I visited with Chris tonight and he gave me the bad news. As Tim MACHA said, anyone that was blessed to hunt with him will remember him. He was definately one of the favorites in my memory! I don't think I ever hunted with a dog with as much drive and consistency as TRIPOD.

As Chris had stories about Joe's life, I remember the weekend Chris asked me to hunt Joe as he had to be gone. I drew the same fella in the casts, both nights and the hunts were 80 miles apart. He knew after those two nights to have your walking shoes on and expect to see a coon under the tripod. 2 hunts, 2 first place wins and tripod was finished to NT CH.

Chris, I want you to know how my heart sunk when you told me Joe was gone. He was a dog to be proud of, "in or out of the woods"! Good luck to the both of you guys on replacing him.

Rob

First time I saw that dog hunt was when Chris had him up in Wis. for the opening of coon season several years back. That red dog was one hell of a dog.

Sad News

So sorry to hear about Joe. I would have loved to have hunted with him. I am sure he was one of the best the breed had to offer. We never know what tommorrow holds for us or our hounds. Take advantage of every minute with that favorite hound. God Bless, take care and keep'em RED!

There's nothing I respect more in a dog than the desire to get out there and do what you want them to do. From everything I've heard about Tripod he had all of that any one could ask for.
