My dog got ate up at a hunt, since then he won't hold tree. The problem I'm having is that he is a belly up dog that stays right where the coon went up, he won't fight so if a dog gets on him and he can't have that spot he leaves. How can I teach him to tree on the tree somewhere else or even sit back? I've withdrawn from two hunts because of it, I need a fix.

had a hound do this also.either put a caged coon up and let him tree it or turn one loose and get to him quick with some other dogs( i used young dogs)have someone turn young dogs loose and stand close with an attitude adjuster. get him quick when he leaves take back to tree pet him up good. Hopefully he'll forget somewhat about getting eat up before.

He doesn't have a treeing problem when all is well. His problem is he wants to stay where the coon went up the tree. If he can't have that spot is where the trouble starts. He won't fight, so if a dog gets on him and won't let him have it, he leaves.

Run him with more dogs. The more he gets to hunt with other dogs the more he will get use to dogs "taking his spot". I had a dog like this also, hasnt everyone! It's a damm curse let me tell ya. I found out that taking him with "tree fiendly" dogs, dogs that wont fight for a spot at the tree, really helps. the more you run him with dogs period will also give you a antiveinem (spelling) for curing this. When hunting him by himself, get down there quickly and tie him to the tree. This will also make him realize what we are trying to do.

I've been tying to the opposite side of the tree when I get there, seems to be helping a little, only time will tell though.
