I have noticed some dark brown discharge leaking from my female. Anybody know what this could be. Thanks in advance.

Has she recently been in season, or is she due to come in soon? Sometimes, they have a slight discharge around those times.

Hopefully she is not pregnant; if so, she needs to see a vet. Dark discharge (or green discharge) during pregnancy usually means trouble...

Is she eating normally, & in her usual quantities ? If not, get her in to the vet right away; discharge & not eating well are 2 of the early signs of Open Pyometra (serious infection that could kill the dog).

There are 2 types of Pyometra; "Open", where there is some dark and/or brownish discharge, and "Closed" - where the dog does not have discharge but the internal infection is just as serious, and by the time the dog really starts showing symptoms, it is often too late to save them.

I have been through both types of Pyometra, unfortunately. It usually ends up with the dog being spayed...

Her last cycle was 2.5 months ago. She seems to be eating normally.

Pyometra can affect ANY female canine, bred or NOT.

It tends to be more common in unspayed females as they get older, but it can occur at any age.

My affected dogs were: a 7 year old female who had recently been in season, a 10 year old female, and (most recently) a 12 year old female. The 7 year old had just been bred 5 days before becoming ill; the other 2 dogs were NOT bred.

If your female's discharge continues, I personally would want to have my vet take a look at her. If nothing else, the vet may decide to put her on a certain type of anti-biotic, "just in case".

Some discharge can also be from certain types of cancer.
