I use an egg. Don't crack it, just put it in the back of the trap and ploace the trap so they can see it. They LOVE eggs. Also don't remember ever catching an opossom with an egg.

Honey buns with powdered coolaid poored all over it works great for me or aluminum foil with peanut butter in it. Coons love something shiny.

My most effective one is cut a chunk of a white egg carton bottom put a piece of wire on it and put peanut butter in egg hole and hang it inside back of trap....Very little trash problem !!!

i've used Dave's method, and also like to use just brown sugar in a cup, cut off to about 2 inches high. they do love that sweet stuff.

Just about any bait will work for coons. Location is 110% more important than what bait to use.

Two of my best locations in the past was an abandoned house and a restaurant dumpster near a woods and water source.

One night after hunting I pulled into a Wendy's that was near an expressway exit to show my buddy the coons that ate in that dumpster. The dumpster was right against a small wood lot that had a small creek running through it. Nineteen coons bailed out of that dumpster. I never had to wait more than two nights to catch a coon there.

Location location location is the secret to catching coons!

I agree, bait is less important as the location you place your trap. If I had to choose my bait of choice would be a slice of bread with peanut butter & a little jelly on it.

spray some cheap vanilla on the trap and up high where the wind can carry the scent ... you can tie a rag or piece of foil to the trigger and catch em' without bait ...

But avoid stuff like tuna or sardines ... skunks will for sure be drawn to that stuff whereas they will somewhat overlook your trap if you use sweets like cheap cookies or marshmallows .

I'd dittto what Larry said though ... location and get the coon there and the rest doesn't much matter ...

pm me if you want some other hard learned pointers ...

I had nilla wafers and marshmallows in there. They ate out the nilla wafers but when my trap set it got caught on the arm bar to the step. And he backed out of it.
