I have had several dogs in the past, and all have learned to lead with little to no effort on my part. Now I have a 7 month old pup out of great breeding, and when you snap a lead on her she act's like a wild horse. Any tip's would be helpful.

alot of patience and pulling the pup around while it's acting crazy and the pup will finally get the idea of leading.

hook up the pup and hand the leash to a kid and let the kid play with the pup for a while it always works for me if you haven't got a kid beg borrow or steal one

Thanks for the info. I have tied her out, and have worked with her for about a month once a day. As for asking a kid, though she is only 7 months old, a kid wouldnt have a chance she is as wild as they come. She almost takes me down, and she weigh's about 65#. What about a choke collar?

the advice you have is good. only other thing is to double snap to an older dog and let it lead the pup around it works.

Use a tree lead with a a sliding ring. Snap the lead on the collar and then take the other end and and go around the dogs flanks and snap into the ring. This will create a "handle" to lead the dog by and when they get wild and want to run and pull you can pick the hind legs up off the ground so they don't have the traction to pull. You do this for awhile and you should be able to lead that dog. I would also use a command when you stop the dog like whoa or stop. That way later on you can use that command to get the dog to stop where you want it to. Now that I've gotten older LOL! I've been teaching my dogs to heel. Having a dog that handles well is one of the pleasures of hunting to me.

snap a lead on her and drag her until she stops kicking. I jsut had one like that I had to pull her for 30 minutes and then she was the best leading dog I got.

Get yourself a little switch and when she trys to get in front of you slap her on the nose that will work sometimes.

Hey fish hook,
I use a pinch collar on mine and a little switch.The pinch collar is
usually enough but for the real stubborn a switch to the rear
will usually make them come rite around after one or two smacks.
then all you really need to do is tap them with it.

Hey just break you off a limb or small branch WITH leaves still on it. just walk her around and everytime she goes to run by you just put the branch in her face. She will stop and move behind you to try to pass on the4 other side - repeat the process. You might have to give a little pop on the nose the first couple of times but that will be it. All my dogs will follow me out of the woods. I have to train them that way to navigate these swamps and briers in eastern Virginia. Plus it will do wonders for a man in the mountains where a pulling dog can kill the both of ya if it pulls at the wrong time. Hope this helps.

WE HAVE TWO PUPS ONE IS51/2 MONTHS AND THE OTHER IS 8MONTHS I THINK. I JUST RECENTLY GOT BACK INTO THE DOG THING WITH MY DAD, IT DIDN'T
SEEM SO TUFF 20 YRS AGO., BUT I GUESS I GOT OLDER AND LEFT MY PATIENCE BEHIND. THE OLDER ONE IS DOING PRETTY WELL , AFTER DRAGGING HER AROUND A FEW TIMES. WHAT WE DO IS WE TEACH THEM TO NOT GET IN FRONT AND THEY LEARN THE COMMAND HEEL, REPEATEDLY, ALSO THEY ARE TAUGHT WHEN BEING CALLED FOR EXAMPLE SHOTGUN COME WE USE THIS TERM
AND THEY LEARN REAL QUICK IF THEY DO NOT LISTEN, SO WHEN WE CALL THEM BY NAME AND SAY COME THEY KNOW WHO IS CALLING THEM AND THEY WON'T JUST GO TO ANYONE IT WORKS PRETTY WELL EVEN OUT IN YHE WOODS.
