No, the dog can quit 15 tracks and as long as the time doesn't catch him or he don't come in he can not be minused his strike.

The rule is very clear, to be minused for quitting a track he has to quit the track AND COME IN. If both don't happen that rule can't be applied.

The other way is for the time to get him.

Rip is correct... many people will try to get philisophical on whether a dog did or did not "quit" it's track, but the rule about quiting a trail is 4 (E) and Rip is correct, in that it also states that they must "come in".

Now... I have also seen people argue that when a dog comes in to a tree, they have "come in" but 4 (D) and 4 (G) address that situation.

I think one thing people forget, is that in the old days coon hunting was more of a social event. Folks didn't mind dogs "helping" one another or "backing" another on a tree. They just wanted to go out and tree some coon, they didn't want to walk all over god's creation going from one tree to another. And much of that remains today, in certain circles. It's us competition hunters that demand a dog be independent and do there own thing. In other words, backing a dog on a tree is a fault in a competition hunters point of you, not necessarily a coon hunters. I think this is why UKC allows 5 minutes to get on a tree after the first one, and you're only penalized for taking too long, not the aspect of covering in itself.

strike minused

I've hunted on a few hunts that a dog had to get in the dog box and shut the tailgate to get minused.

I can't say that I've seen that, but I was in a cast several weeks ago, where a dog caught and killed a skunk and brought it back to the trucks, where the guide was waiting due to a bumb leg. When he got back there, he jumped into and placed the skunk in a redbone's box!

Now I call that "profiling"... and profiling is wrong according to Ron White!
