No particular amount I just pour enough in until it smells good to me. If I can smell it, a coon can definitely smell it.

I fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and one pac of koolaid. Only fill tire half full of corn and fill with koolaid. I like to have alot of koolaid in the feeder so coons dont have to leave it to get something to drink.

Please let me know if yall think I'm wrong but I've got a hang up on scented corn! In my mind, fish oil, koolaid, syrup or any other type of sent takes away from the smell of the coon! In my opinion a coon that's been digging in grape koolaid is going to smell a lot more like koolaid than it does a coon! I use dry corn that can drain because I don't even want it to sour! I may not have as many coons as I would have if I used scent but I can usually strike one fairly easy! This is my opinion and everybody's got one but please let me know what ya'll think because I'm along way from knowing it all but that's my hang up! Thanks and God bless!

hiball i got a 5 gallon bucket on side of the mountain full of soured corn, i dont have a lid on it. i got it wired to a tree so the coons want tip it over when they climb in it, but as far as i can tell i aint noticed my dogs haveing trouble strikeing a coon or running them after the coon has been eating the soured corn, i reckon a dog can still smell coon no matter whats on his feet lol. i use to mix grape cool aid with the soured corn but to be honest i aint been able tell difference between spiked or straight i have the same amount of coons which is not many.lol

I've often wondered what it would be like to have the nose of a dog for just a day. Besides looking funny on us (haha) I figure it would pretty much overwhelm our senses since we are not used to it.

I'm sure a dog can smell coon through the smell of koolaid or soured corn as I once had a dog running a track, ran across a skunk, got sprayed right in the face, quit for about a minute, then went back to finish the track and tree the coon. If a dog can smell the coon through a direct shot of skunk musk I figure they can work around the koolaid or soured corn.

But, I also see hiball's point. If you're starting young dogs on buckets filled with smelly stuff, do they start to associate a coon with koolaid smell? and, if they do will they be a little confused or not want to run a wild coon that doesn't smell like grape koolaid? I don't use feeders so I don't know. Just a couple questions that came to mind.

Right now my buddy has my dog comp. Hubring him. I'm just feeding the coon. I don't hunt him over buckets or feeders anymore. I started him on buckets when he was a pup. I don't want a bucket dog,I want a coon dog. If he can't find a coon in the wild he ain't much good to me. I'm not wanting to start no fighting but if u hunt dogs on feeders every nite all u got is a bucket dog. I understand putting them out if u don't have very many coon. I hunt in swamps where I live and know I have a few coon. I just like feeding the coon. I don't even have a dog right now. I'm using koolaid in one spot and sour corn in the other because I want to see what they like better and figure it would be better to try it while I don't have a dog to hunt.

I only hunt youg hounds on the feeders and the coons won't become diabetics cause I use the sugar free koolaid. I don't know about the high scores being from feeders, I have never even been on a cast where there where feeders. Please tell me the difference from a feeder with 50lbs of corn and a 200 or more acre corn field? I'm not saying that no one is hunting over feeders just that there is no difference in the two.

think of it this way.... you have a 200 acre pasture with 20 cows in it and one feed trough and another with 20 feed troughs... its dark and you need to find the cows.... which ones you think generally would be the easiest to find persuming they are feeding

Anybody wanna guess where Im cutting tonight?? Ok, times up! It'll be on a feeder or 2 with a lil 10 month old pup. Which pups don't mean nothing. I'll cut my 9 yr old on a couple one night this week to. Its easier for me to get out there and tree em than to sit back and whine about people hunting them lol. Crybabies!
