New Garmin

The wife just bought me a Garmin for my Birthday. Do you guys have any advice on any major do and dont's?

Trying not to screw it up before I get started.

Thanks
Jeff D

Don't over tighten the antenna.

First thing I would do is replace the antenna on the 220 and the antennas on your collars. The stock antennas are pretty much junk. There are several people on here that sell the aftermafrket antennas.

if it came with a lanyard do not hook it to the d ring on the battery cover. I did that and was walking through knee deep water and the d ring turnd battery cover came off and garmin dropped in the water i couldnt find it. Also make sure to register it because if you ever lose it they can find it but not if you dont register it. I learnd all this the hard way

Do put a clip on your lanyard and do snap it to you before you leave the house.

Read that instruction manual about 3 times, and then find a teenager to show you how to use it.

Punch a hole in your shirt collar, shirt pocket, or button hole, or coat, or carhart overalls pocket, or whatever you wearing, close to the pocket you want to put it in, thread the lanyard through the hole and the handheld back through the loop and stick it in the pocket. You know just like you looped the lanyard in the little place on the handheld where it is supposed to go. And as far as the collar antenna, get you a short piece of #8 stranded copper wire or go to tractor supply and buy a short piece of that little plastic covered cable, just about twice as long as the factory antenna, stick it down through the loop in the collar, and on down in toward the box, skin a little place on the antenna and a place that matches it on the wire or cable and clamp them together and tape em up good. No use to buy one. A little southern engineering, but it works.

They find it the same way that On Star finds my Silverado if I run it out through the woods or if it's stolen.

best way yet take all the crap off it slide in carhartt bibs in either side pocket on side of legs goes in deep enough and snug enough, it's not falling out, its not in the way, even the 320 with long ant. fits nice, easy to get to can sit down. no clips no buckles no straps! i've tried every way they make to carry the darn thing and afters years and lots of money and lost twice did find both times got lucky this is what i found to work best heck it's so natural i've even forgot to turn off at the end of the night but its there!!!!!

Didn't work for mine. I called to try when I left mine of the top of my dog box... They told me that it is only a receiver, and not a transmitter, therefore they had no way to find it. That was with a 220 rather than a 320. Maybe the new ones are different, but yeah don't set it on the truck somewhere and go hunting without grabbing it.

That's a big negative ghost rider.... When they store got broke into the Garmin items were the only stuff taken. I called Garmin, they took all the numbers and said if they came in for repair I would be notified,,

Buy rechargeable batteries. Take it with you everywhere. It can be your best friend, and yes you will cuss it.if you think you messed up playing with it use the back bottom.once you learn how to use it you won't know how you hunted without it the first 6 months I had nine it payed for itself in saved gas.
