If this was ever true it had to have changed a long, long ,long time ago. I don't ever remember anything but cast winner with plus points to place... I've hunted in the hunts since 1984 and for dang sure lost my share of casts and never got anything but a handshake

it use to be true... the hunts went down hill fast when the pleasure hunter with just and average me to dog quit getting any recognition.... use to you could get a small trophy and not win your cast sometimes.... now no one will enter if they dont have a dog they think can win

I believe they quit this in the early 70's. Was at a hunt once there was a bad storm and everyone had minus points or just had to quit hunting for safty reasons. About 5 min before the deadline 4 cast members in one cast came in with plus points and card was perfect not even a rain drop or wet spot on the card. ( there was flood conditions and tornados) no minus points. I don't remember the actual point total but was something like, first 800+ second 600+ third 400+ and fourth 200+ They got all 4 places in the hunt as no one else came in with plus points. That cast made either 2 or 3 Nt CH that night. I believe this was in the late 60's. Everyone including the MOH knew they had not even turned a dog loose that night, but let it go through over a lot of objections from a lot of other hunters. Yeah, even back then. LOL!

it was later than that... i hunted my first hunts in the mid 80s and you could place without winning the cast then... but you still had to have the first which was a lot harder to get then than now because you would have 20 to 25 cast a night verses 1 or 2

i saw at a few hunts in the early 90's they would place the hounds with a cast win in the 1st,2nd. 3rd what have you and so on till cast winners were all placed , then say like they had trophies for top 20 or 25, then they would come back and place the dogs with most plus points with no cast win in those positions for some recognition but they got no points, just the trophy......

Yes, it used to be that way. Plus point cast winners were placed first, followed by highest scores on non-cast winners until all 10 places had been awarded. All of these dogs recieved points toward Nt.Ch. (7-10 got 5pts.). A dog still needed to compile at least 100 points with a first place win to make Nt.Ch.. UKC did away with this and also began requiring the MOH to be licensed sometime in the mid 80's amidst complaints of "cheap" or "counterfiet" Nt.Ch.'s because it was too easy to get points.

Many clubs continued to do this without the dogs earning any championship points for several years after the rule change. Most if not all of them stopped doing it when costs became too great in relation to the number of entries. For some reason, and I can't remember why, trophies nearly doubled in price around 1990-91.
