Hunting During the Off Season?

The season in South Carolina will be over on March 15. I have a young dog that is progressing very well. I normally do not hunt in the Spring due to my fear of gators. Do you think this young dog will be alright with no hunting until next fall or should I hunt him this Summer too?

I hunt during the summer but i don't have any gators to worry about. I dont hunt as much and my dog don't hunt near as well because we cant shoot coons out but he does alright until season comes around. At least it keeps him in shape for season and for nite hunts.

its my favorite time to hunt after season closes. coon run good and do not have to pack a gun and shells and carry coon, plus no bugs until early summer, no snakes and no gators. man its coonhunting heaven up here in northern ohio.

I saw a ten foot gator on the bank of a 1/8 acre pond this afternoon Feb 28. who would believe quiting in February?. Plenty of coon tracks around that little pond fpr a dog go on his "happy Trails"on. I don't hunt from gators out till gators back in, March to October. I might hunt a young dog around mutton corn. I'm more likely to hunt a dog I would not mind lossing too much. Iwould like to be able to hunt some to keep them in shape but I let them chase the truck down a six mile dirt road sometimes when it cool enough in the summer. I know I would have better dogs but I don't see where it sets the trained dogs back to lay up and sometimes I think it helps the ones I have started cause they liable to go right to treeing after summer.. I have to do it that way or not have anything to hunt come next season. We both could find places without too many gators farther inland counties. I use gators for an excuse because it is too hot to hunt. LOL

I imaigine where you were going to is quite a bit farther west than I am. Theres misquiots, they're worse in certain areas and unless it stays real hot at nite they drop off a hr after dark. I only had problems with them a nite or two last couple summers. No bears where I live either, your biggest critter in these woods is coyotes.
