MINNESOTA Dog/Hound Hunters ----

There are meetings across the State for inut on letting snares getting set earlier in the farm zone.

They left the trapper set for coon earlier in the northern zone last fall than we could use our hounds and now they want to let them set their snares???

When the hound guys wanted to open the season earlier the trapping Assn said that the furs aren't prime---do snares only catch the good ones?

My point is ---- if they can set a trap or snare, WE should also be able to harvest the resource. My hounds cost me 365 days a year to enjoy, and we don't work 24/7 when a season is open. We also lose a few weeks out of the respect for our land owners during the Government Goat Season, also known as Deer Gun Season.

I'm not asking for anything more, just want to be treated the same.

Thanks for reading and if you agree, contract the DNR, if not, sorry for taking up your time.

OT

I agree and I think this might be getting overlooked due to the conibear issue.
When the MTA pushed snares into the farmland zone we were told the intent was to increase coyote harvest and that a Dec 1st opening to that season was because the majority of hunting dogs were no longer afield.
What has changed? Now they want to snare in mid October when every type of hunting dog is afield and when coyotes are not prime. They'll be targeting coon with these snares.
Other houndsmen are worried about the MTA and here they are already pushing regulations that effect houndsmen with no concern about us.
Contact the DNR about this issue.

The DNR announced this week that it's seeking citizen input on three hunting and trapping issues at a series of five meetings beginning this coming Thursday. The proposals are:

• Requiring non-toxic shot for rail and snipe hunting.

• Adding a third waterfowl zone in southern Minnesota.

• Allowing snaring to begin earlier on private property in the farmland zone.

The meeting dates are:

• Tuesday, Feb. 28, Highland Middle School, 801 Central Ave. N., Crookston.

• Thursday, March 8, Nicollet Conservation Club, 46045 471st Lane, Nicollet.

• Thursday, March 8, Mille Lacs Energy, 36559 U.S. Highway 169, Aitkin.

• Thursday, March 15, DNR Headquarters, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul.

Meetings will be from 7-9 p.m.

A DNR press release says that if the Legislature approves and the governor signs a bill authorizing a wolf hunting and trapping season, a separate public input process will be conducted. Rest assured our readers will know about those sessions well in advance.

If you can't attend a meeting but want to weigh in on a topic, you can complete a questionnaire online at www.mndnr.gov/hunting starting next Thursday, Feb. 23.

You also can file comments via email at wildlife.dnr@state.mn.us or send written comments to: Season comments, DNR Section of Wildlife, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4007.

Yes sir. I sent one to Jason today.

jason.abraham@state.mn.us[/email]

But I think these channels will work too. I think any comments would get forwarded to the appropriate department. I'll post them again because there is another person who handles the wolf issues and I know some houndsmen are interested in that too.

Check out todays Minn Tribune. On the back page of the sports section there is an article talking about the 220 debate(among otherthings). Apparantly a bill is being propsed to restrict 220's on public land. Keep the heat up and we might gain a little ground! Keep emailing your legislator!

There will also be an article in today's Rochester Post Bulletin outdoor section regarding this issue.
