We have received an advance sample of the new Tritronics NightRazor Light and wanted to share our first impressions with you soon as possible.
When we first looked at the new light we said “Wow”, then “hmmm – I wonder how powerful this unit can be with no external battery?” Once we turned on the light, our question was quickly answered. The light provides a very bright, pure white LED light in a strong and focused beam. Even though the lens is round, the light projects a square beam that is significantly larger and brighter than the standard headlamp that comes with powerful external batteries.
When we asked the experts at Tritronics how they accomplished making this light so much brighter, they were quick to explain that the lens hardware used in the NightRazor is extremely high quality, optical grade material, and is designed and engineered to maximize the 180 lumens of light generated by the LED’s. They explained this light was designed from the ground up for night hunting use and they spared no expense to get it right. From what we are seeing – they were successful!
The NightRazor also has some cool additional features as well. There are four light intensity settings that allow run-time to range from 40 hours on low to 2 ½ hours on super bright. The switch to change settings is easy to grasp, even when wearing gloves, and has solid “click” settings to separate each intensity level. The light normally runs in steady beam on, regular mode, but can also be easily switched to strobe, or even to an SOS flashing mode. The compact nature of the light is like a dream come true. The lens diameter is 2 ½” and the body is about 3” long by 1 ¾” deep, and the overall weight of the unit is about 5 ounces. Compared to traditional night hunting lights, it’s like a more powerful light without the bulk of batteries! The light comes with a very sturdy standard sized clip that will allow it to fit on most bump cap brackets.
Tritronics touts the unit as “waterproof and rugged”, and our field testing on wet nights in the field supports the waterproof claim, and we’ve bounced the light around pretty hard - without a flicker. The NightRazor package includes 110V AC wall charger which is very easy to use. When completely discharged, the light will take about 4 hours to fully recharge. The light provides you with a signal four quick flashes when in use every 30 seconds, which means you have 30 minutes of less charge left in the light. There is also a flashing red indicator light letting you know the light is fully discharged, a solid red light that the unit is accepting a charge, and a solid green light when it is fully charged.
Additional accessories sold separately are a 12V DC vehicle charger, a clear lens protector, and red and amber lens covers.
The NightRazor is not cheap at $199.95, but for the quality and performance that’s built into this unit, it’s our light of choice when hunting at night.
