I once live trapped a coon using nothing but an empty beer can just to prove the shiny point. i use my bait cans with footholds also. i just smash the can in the mud of a steep bank and bed a trap in front of it under an inch or so of water. it is deadly. and dirt cheap. a guy can make hundreds of sets for just a few dollars worth of fish oil and some sheeps wool.
Where I hunt I am required to kill every coon I tree. They also keep set 75 live traps and the sardine thing is exactly what they use. So far I am well behind for my normal year at this time of year with 51 coons. Their numbers are about normal, 280 possums and 8 coons so far. Personaaly , I hope they keep on with the sardine thing, it makes me look good. LOL
