What's the best bait to put in a live trap for coons? Been using tuna but after 4 days, no luck.

Marshmellows and grape kool aid i make a trail with the marshmellows then put a few in the back of trap then sprinkle the kool aid all around just use the dry powder dont mix with water Youll have one the next morning if ones around

Peanut butter smear it I. Top and bottom of trigger plate they can't reach in and steal it like tuna and sardines

a can of sardines in oil. just crack the lid dont open it. or better yet just poke some holes in the lid. dribble a trail with some of the oil to your trap. if you dont open it the coon cant get to your bait. you can use the same can for months. if it gets dried out just pour some water or fish oil in the can the older they get the stronger the fishy smell gets. i also have real good luck just shoving some sheeps wool in a shiny silver pop or beer can and then squishing it. after you squish it squirt some fish oil or better yet some shellfish oil in the hole. you can use these bait cans for ever just freshen them up every so often with a squirt of oil. coons love shiny stuff so shiny can itself is attractive to a coon. I once live trapped a coon using nothing but an empty beer can just to prove the shiny point. i use my bait cans with footholds also. i just smash the can in the mud of a steep bank and bed a trap in front of it under an inch or so of water. it is deadly. and dirt cheap. a guy can make hundreds of sets for just a few dollars worth of fish oil and some sheeps wool.

that is funny. maybe it works so good for me because i only see two or three possums a year in my area. kinda hard to trap a coon if you got that many grinners.

i lovethe grape kool aid idea. but dont think i could give up my grape kool aid.lol.. they will eat anything we eat and theres not to much they wont it. i use the bang for my buck and it last a very long time with just simple whole corn from the feed store and and a bag of m&m's and a littl sryup oh man. but mainly i just do the corn ten bucks at the feed store for a 50 lb bag. take two coffee cans and fill them up and pour lightly down the creek bed or the water hole about two nights and the next night set your trap and dont pour any corn down the creek bed and just a very very small trailer leading into the trap with a small container with corn in it in the back of the live trap and your good to go. my goal is to keep them coming back everynight as many as possible thats why i feed the corn. and on nights i trap i dont pur any down the creek bed cause they should be coming back hungry and just go right in. and the next night i start feeding down the creek bed after i got my coon. and nights im going to hunt i go out and feed them early around 5 and hit my honey hole around 8 and have some hot tracks for the pup to track on.

Bacon grease works great. It has a strong smell and wont wash away.
