Why No Hunt Test?

I was looking at the UKC site for hunt test in my area and noticed a lot of states do not have any listed (including the state I live in). Why is there not more of these hunts? I would like to take my young hounds to these type of hunts to show they can get it done on their own. I just can't afford to drive to another state every other week to do these hunts and wish that more clubs would offer the hunt test. Does anyone else feel there should be more of these hunts offered around your area? I have never done any of the hunt test and have never had a chance to see one in action, I would like to hear some thoughts on hunt test from other people that have ran their hounds in them (good or bad).

Are you a club member? If not, then that would be your first step in getting them in your area.

I think the obvious reason there are so few is because there are so few clubs that are getting any request for them. They don't cost anything. They require very little from the club or the members. One guy can put them on. There is no reason not to have them if some one wants them.
It seems like most of those who are disappointed in not having any around them are also not members of any club.

We tried them for 1 yr thought we would draw more of the pleasure hunters in to the club out of the 6-8 we had only 3 showed up one time that weren't club members. They are a few clubs in NE. Iowa I know there are a couple of guys interested in putting some on If you are interested let me know and I'll put you in contact with them.

Here is a link that explians all about hunt test. It is more or less a hunt for a single hound that has to tree a coon within an hour without making 2 mistakes. If your hound passes 3 times then the hound earns an HTX title.
