Rule Question / Iterpitation - What is your thoughts, and its meaning?

Points Will Be Plus:

Rule 3b:

When dog is declared struck and treed and coon is seen other than in tree, dog declared treed to receive strike and tree points. Dogs not declared treed, strike points only. If dog catches coon, strike points only.

I have seen, what I believe, this rule to be misused, on different occasions. One in particular was a man, in a competition hunt, tried to get his dog plussed, using this rule, when the coon was in a different tree than what his dog was treed in, no limbs were touching, not even close. Coon could not have got from one tree to the other unless he was crossed with a bird or flying squirrel, or sprouted wings. I minused this dog.

Shawn, that rule pertains to anything other than a tree. If a dog is treed there, (other than in tree), this is the rule you use. The man that was trying to use this rule in that cast was grasping for some way to not get minused. You did the right thing.

Micheal and Josh, I agree with you and understand the rule. However, my piont is that people will try and take advantage of it. THe rule says ".... other than in tree,..." One could say it is in other than that tree. The rule says in tree, not that tree nor another tree. I feel it is plane nonsence for someone to even try and use it any other way than which it was intended, but some people will try anything to keep from being minused, and unless it in written out percisely, with a picture, we will always have those that try an take advantage.

Check my other post out about when to minus or circle, you will find this one just as dumb.

Dog got what he deserved. If no way possible the coon could have crossed, the dog gets minus, strike and tree.
