Sidney is it? Theres not much you can do when you arent there. BUT when you are at the tree what you need to do is put him on the lead quick as you get there. Soon as he jumps, runs around the tree, acts up start by jerking him with the lead strap and saying the word "NO". He will proceed to push your buttons hes been doing this for sometime. What you will need to do is be VERY PERSISTANT in this and he will slowley calm himself down. The more he does this the harder you get onto him about this. You will not hurt his treeing department.
"Do not let him get away with any of this once you start the process" ""I CANNOT EMPHISIZE THIS""
This is a partly a habit he has learned himself and partly by trait. Its up to you to correct it and you still have time to partly cure it. You will enjoy him more by correcting him. Any help I can give "im not expert" id be glad to help.

i have stopped a hound from jacking and running with a leash and shock collar. but once i quit getting on him for it he started again

only thing is its impossible to break one IMO . you can stop it for a little while, but the desire to jump or jack will always be there. and the harder you try and break it...the closer you will come to ruining him

For the climbing part.

Cut his toenails every week until he has little nubs that can't get a hold of anything. Or take to the vet and have him nock him out and cut his nails way back. They can jump, but they can't hang on or climb with out the nails.

I'm interested in this. I have a 2 yr old Redbone that has this problem. White men might not be able to jump but this guy can catch some air! He will only bark about 40-50 times a minute because he spends all his time in the air. He doesn't run around the tree but he jumps almost consistently. I like the trailer ball idea. I've tried jerking the lead. I even hung a caged coon and worked with him in this way. It only worked for a few minutes. So we worked more, and more, and more, etc. I can only take that for so long before I give out. lol Any more ideas out there?

A lot of tree jacking is T.R.A.I.N.E.D. into them. When you work a dog on hang ups their first instinct if they don't bark is to JUMP and try to grap the tail or, in a lot of instances, the dead coon. What do WE do when we can't get our little project to bark....."Where is it, Bud? Speak to it. GET IT!" We let the pup jump until they get tired and finally bark. Then we reward our project by dropping the coon or tail to it. You have basically trained that dog to JUMP and bark for his reward. I know this doesn't help your problem, but, it could help in not starting another pup or dog to have the same problem. Treeing is an instinct or trait. You don't have to work a TREE dog on the tree that much. The trait should come out naturally.

I would leave him treed for long time. I shock mine lightly every time his back feet come off the ground. It helps teach him what I am talking about when I tell him to stay down. I think leaveing treed for longer is going to help now that it is cooled off wear I can.

tree jacking

i think its a hard thing to break after they have been doing it awhile i had a red gyp i got of of a young guy he worked her on a caged coon just get it outta her reach first night i hunted her she would get back from the tree get a run for it she might go 3or 4 feet up the side of tree i tried putting a leash on her making her stand still worked for awhile you couldnt tie her if you didnt have a chain leash on her she would chew a naylon leash up to get back at the tree like i said she slowed down on it but never did completely quit doing it
