We've been having a bunch of den trees, plenty on the outside, just way more dens than normal for this time of year! Don't know what to make of it yet. Don't know if I need more dog power to put them up faster, or if its just another one of those things lol

we always do in december through january. we usually have loooong races that end with a den sometimes on the outside sometimes not, just the rut is what i always thought, and its very seldom you kill a boar seems like they almost always head for the den in the rut.

Similar here the last week or so.

My thought was the coon are running early, possibly even before dark. By the time I hit the woods they have headed back to the den? If so, they should run again later in the night, maybe early morning?

Have had some deer hunters tell me they have been seeing coon in the evening before dark. Moon could have something to do with it.

Who knows? That why it is called "hunting" not "getting"... lol

Think its bad now. Wait till they have had their christmas dinner. That's when they will get hard to tree.

Deer season here. The deer hunters say they are seeing them early in the morning.

Hope you all don't mind if I make a suggestion as to why so many dens. My guess is that you only have a few hunting spots so these coon you are running are now educated and getting harder to tree. Now the ability of your hound will play a role in this as well but in general it is probably more that your coons are getting smarter.

I say this because I am hunting in areas within approximately 5-10 miles from where Ohio English is hunting and I have had 18 trees with coons in them, 3-4 empties and 3 dens. So I'm not seeing no where near the number of den trees that Ohio English and many others are seeing, and I'm guessing its because these coon I'm treeing have not been dogged near as much. We will all have that issue to deal with in Dec. & Jan. Good Hunting to all!!

backtracking...not finishing track, treeing smelly dens

in my opinion half the dens people make dont have coon on them and may as well be deemed slick trees with holes!!!. alot of dogs tree smelly dens when it gets tough and people say they just arent moving(which can be the case)

if you see coon sitting up somewhere and your dog is treeing dens...ya need to get to whippin ass.
