dog running deer
I've got a 3 year old female that seems to have been running some off tracks in the last couple of weeks. She's been pretty straight in the past. I 've tried to give the benifit of the doubt but...
It seems that in the last couple of weeks alot of her tracks have went into weed fields away from the timber. That seemed odd to me. I realise that a coon could cross it headed to another woods but she mills around in there for a awhile, at times she's ran a good ways to it. Her track bark doesn't change much to be sure whether she is trashing or not. I got the idea to take her in the daytime at about lunch time and turned her loose in a big weed field to see what she would do. She opened 2 or 3 times and I saw the deer top the hill about 75 yards ahead of her. I shocked her pretty good. That told me that would run a deer track. I took her coonhunting a night or two later and she ran a track about .8 of mile on the garmin almost in a staight line. Until it's already done I am not sure enough at the time to shock her. I don't want to take the chance of shocking her off of a coon. The big question is why is she doing this now? She's 3. You expect some of it from a pup, but I expected to see her solid up alot this winter and not make so many mistakes and just generally look more pollished. Any thoughts?
