I live in Okmulgee Oklahoma and I have been coon hunting for awhile now I'm a senior in high school I'm 18yrs old and I love coon hunting it's my life and passion and I need someone in okla that comp hunts that I could hunt with and could tell me and teach me about comp hunting! I'm a die hard hunter and a good honest kid thank y'all!

(yes I know my dog. Better than most.)
(yes I have a rule book.)
Just need a older person that's been hunting along time to learn from.

Get a rule book and learn them. Take a score card and make copies. Then keep score and right it down when you are out pleasure hunting. Go to your local hunts and enter. Most hunters are honest and will help you there. There are allways exceptions to every rule. If you feel like you got cheated don't worry about it or get mad. You got $ 20.00 worth of experience.
A lot of the cry babbies are people that went to there first hunt wanting or even expecting to win.
Go to have fun and learn and you will. If you are ever up towards Tonkawa stop in and we will go.

I would agree with getting the rule book and reading it. You can also pull the rule book up on this UKC web site and read it from your computer. Once you have read them, then you can ask your hunting partner to help explain. A few of the worst things to me that can happen at a hunt are: Getting drawn out with someone that doesn't know the rules, Getting drawn out with someone that doesn't know the dog they are hunting, Getting drawn out with Jerks or a Jerk for lack of a better word to describe them. KNOW THE RULES. When you know the rules ALWAYS hunt by them, don't bend them or allow them to be bent. The hunt usually goes well if the rules are followed to the letter. Good luck in finding a hunting partner.

You don't need to know any of the rules on your first hunt. You just don't argue because you think you know the rules. Like I said"don't go to win for a while, go to learn". There are people that have been hunting all there life that get messed up on the rules some of the time. Every fight I have ever seen in the woods was from 2 people that thought they new the rules better than the other. If you think you are getting cheated and want to do something about it just ask for a ? be put on the score card. The way it is set up there should NEVER be a argument in the woods. SIMPLEY ASK FOR A ? and don't disrespect another mans word. Tell them they are probubly right but you want the ? so you can ask about it when you get in.

Do yourself a favor try to KNOW THE RULES. Even on your first hunt. When an individual enters into one of these hunts, They are expected to know the rules and know their dog. If a situation comes up and you have to make a decision in the woods it is helpful to know the rules. Just because you got a "JUDGE" out there doesn't always mean they are knowledgeable enough on the rules to be a "JUDGE". You go out there unprepared all your doing is giving someone a chance to take advantage of your lack of knowledge, which in turn can lead to bad experiences at the hunts. Knowing the rules and your dog is the best help you can give yourself in having a fun time at the hunts. Listen you may get drawn out with some guys that are in it to win it no matter what. And if you don't know the rules, that can be used to put you out of the hunt and out of the way. Then since you don't know the rules, will you know what really is right and wrong out there. I agree even some of the best comp. hunters get messed up from time to time on the rules. This is a prime example why EVERYONE in the cast needs to KNOWS THE RULES. I truly believe you will have a better experience in your first few hunts if you have gone over the rules several times and know your dog well. Get you a hunting partner and do some practice hunts out pleasure hunting, call your dog, run the time on strike, tree shine, etc. You don't have to learn the hard way. Take the time and prepare yourself and your hound. Goodluck.

i started comp hunting this spring and belive me KNOW THE RULES order a book study that book it will make your first hunt alot more enjoyable.You dont want to go out there and get cheated right off the rip it puts a bad taste in your mouth.I stewed for weeks over getting cheated and it wasnt even me in the hunt i was a spectator.
the above idea of getting a card and making copies is what we did and it helped alot we took a pr dog to nite champ in 1 summer BY KNOWING THE RULES and not letting anyone cheat us
it is alot more fun whenb you know what is going on with the time keeping and why the judge is doing this or that also.
I hope you do good and have a good time.keep us posted on how you do

I have everything rule book, score cards, and I know my dog like the back of my hand. I just need someone that's been comp hunting for awhile that is willing to take me hunting and teach me the things that ain't in the book or score card

Get a list of the local upcoming hunts that you are willing to travel to. Go hang out and meet the people at these clubs. It won't be long and you will find what you have been looking for. The upcoming hunts can be found on this UKC web site. Ask around locally, some of the older fellows that still pleasure hunt, but have retired or semi retired from the hunts are the guys that would be great hunting partners and teachers for what you are wanting to achieve. Keep asking and looking you will find the help your looking for.

If you have everything, know the rules, understand them and understand the scoring system and know your dog like the back of your hand, then I would think going to some hunts and entering your dog will help you learn the rest and help you find that Hunting Mentor your looking for. If your confident in your dog and confident that you understanding the rules and score system for the most part, then I would think participation is the next step.

Go to a hunt and ask to spectate on a cast.. Don't say anything during the cast just watch... ask questions afterward..don't shine tree's don't do anything but walk along and observe and listen.. And always remember the most important thing about comp. hunting is to KNOW THE RULES!! and KNOW YOUR DOG! then all you have to do is call your dog for what he is doing...NOT what you wish he was doing or what he should have done! Many dogs act a whole lot different when throwed in with 3 other strange dogs but most get used to it and some even thrive on it..So don't be shocked if ole' reliable does some things he usually don't do.. KNOW THE RULES...KNOW YOUR DOG...BE A GENTLEMAN.. and you'll be further along than 60% of the other cast members you'll ever draw... Go for it and have fun!!

I now hunt Leopard hounds and have had some critigues imply , But I never yet had one on a walking tour but one walk by and say" look at the architecture hanging on that 'un. LOL If you don't know what lol means you certainly won't have a clue about rofl rofl , s my d u yo ting is . LOL
