quality not QUANITY

went hunting last night the guy i went with was shining trees and shooting out coon to his dog. I wouldnt let my dogs near the shot out coon unless they actually treed before he shined it. After 2nd shined coon i loaded up and left. he wondered why his dog wouldnt tree its own. dog had it easy he found coon shot it and dog got rewarded! Whats the point of taking a hound with?!

I had to read this twice.

Wow. We won't let the hounds have the coon unless he trees. We also won't kill everyone they tree. We need some for the next time we turn out as well!!

i dont shoot out everyone either just aint worth it. They shined every tree and would say get the dogs under the tree im gonna shoot it out. then they would pet up dogs like they actually did something and every tree the shined their dog swould tree on. When mine treed their dogs only backed after we shined. After that i took my one coon that my dog earned and headed home

Good ol hide hunters, Don't worry if they're anything like the ones around here they'll be nowhere to be found in 2 weeks, and their "high power" dogs will be penned back up for another 11 months. Then you can stop at the bar on your way to the woods some night and they can tell ya how great their dogs are!

my buddy is in the us coast guard and is stationed in northern , michigan . was talking with him and he was telling me about this big pound hunt up there that two guys on one night brought in 90 coon !! yeah 90 . he said it runs dark til daylight and these guys were bragging about it and it was all over face book , i didnt see it myself , but seems like theres alot people doing this these days walking around shinning trees and shooting all the coon regardless what there dog does . i'd be ashamed to call myself a coonhunter or a sportsman by doing this ! 90 coon a season would be real respectable in west virginia any season . he told me the guys names that done this and where to find it on facebook but i wont stir the stick any farther .

we have 'hunters' up this way that will clear a woods of coon. i mean these guys will even shoot out the kits. don't get the point. if you shoot them all there are no more to run. my dog only gets what he earns and that means he has to tree it. we've been out and sighted coon out in trees but they stay there unless the dog finds them. and then they don't get every one. btw around my place the guys who shoot them all are known and most of us close our woods to them.
