Reckon whats the longest track your dogs ever ran. Garmins every where these days so how long did your hound track his or hers longest before treeing.

I still got beep beep. But even before beep beep I put tracks on an aerial photo and the answere is; 4.3 mile and it took about 2 and ahalf hours of the best race I ever got. Ant the coon had a tail that ran six rings past his nose hanging by the ankles toting the little skinny thing out.

Almost 5 mi. Thought she got hit on the road half way through the track. When we got there the Garmin picked her up again. Sure was relieved to hear her again treed hard with the meat.

I have gotten em off a tree 3-4 miles from where they started a bad one. I hate to see the Walcur guys come in on this one!

Coon average home territory is 1 to 2000 acres. They rarely leave that area. I realize that people like to think that because they treed a coon at the end then it was a coon race. However after a little while I would become very suspect. Especially if many of your tracks seem to be “running type coons”.

I watched a dog I was trying out leave on a heard of deer. I saw him 50 yards behind them. He run them a little over a mile through open fields and as soon as he hit the wood line he slammed treed and had the coon. He was a professional at it.

yeah , if it sounds like the coon is jumped and the dogs are running .... a half mile is a long race ... if it's a coon.


2,000 acres is less than 2 miles square and that is a big range even for a boar coon when food is scarce ... but I'd agree that is within reason.


The longest chases we have are not races .. they are tracking , running, working out what a smart coon did ... then they run it some more .... but it will usually happen within a square mile .

Well not everybody has the dog power to do it and have never witnessed so it is hard for them to fathom. And I don't know where people get their facts and figures on coon home territory. But it is not personal experience.

2000 acres is 3.1 square miles and who says they have to be square? Anyway the 4 mile track and chase ended up 2 miles from where it started. We were able to mosey down a powerline and listened to the whole race as it crossed back and forth down the line. If that kind of race was on trash then that is my kind of trash.

Yes, some dogs do get to be expert at chasing off deer and getting treed.

We're talking about from where the race started to where it treed, not treed from where they were launched. Some breeds do that about every night just to get a hundred yard hot race . And some people are proud of them.

For those of us that don't have garmin, we can plot the track on Google Earth and get a pretty accurate distance provided we know about where the dog ran.

Right on. I wasn't expecting some of those distances lol. I had a track a little over half a mile the other night and picked me out a stick along the way cause I was sure I was fixing to lay a beat down til she got treed and the meat was there. But thats exactly why I dont use shock collars and so many dogs get ruined with them. Jmo

i have run several 4 an 5 hrs in feb. when coon are rutting but almost all of them will stay within 3/4 mile of where struck.... and im not talking trailing im saying run from one thicket to the next and back an forth.... usually get to see the coon a couple times crossing somewhere... i love them type races when pleasure hunting
