sorry for your loss
Fred, no matter how many over the years we loose, it never gets any easier.. I still think back on some of my friends that are burried up on Smokes Creek, with a heavy heart.. They are all champions in our eyes, and wont ever be replaced by another hound.. We dont know what a bad hound is till we owned a good one, and Im sure many future hounds will have to meet the bar that Ace set.. When these unexpected things happen, I always try to tell my self that God may have needed another good check dog in his pack..Im sure ole Ace will fit in nice!
Although sad, this is the part of the sport that will happen as long as we are in it. Its coming full-circle as a houndsman when we have to make these tough calls and say good bye to a trusted companion, partner and friend. Ace was lucky to have you as his owner, as WE are lucky to have you as our friend.. You are a credit to our sport and a good dogman.
I hope some of the younger beaglers here read this and learn to embrace their good hounds, learn with them, and from them. They are here with us for a blink of an eye, so as you did with Ace, I hope they too will get the most out of their hounds and always carry themselves as a good embassador to our sport as you do.
My deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to you, your family and your kennel from myself, and your fellow members at New Empire Beagle Club.
Smokes Crik Ricky G, your yankee bud from Buffalo
