HTX Question For Kellam

Hey Todd,

I have a question for you concerning Inspectors at HTX events. The HTX card reads as below:

Under Inspection Guidelines:
"On a given evening, I may not later have a dog I own or handle inspected by any person who previously accompanied me to the woods."

I understand (and really like) the idea of limiting an Inspector to a single hunt with any one hound where they award a "pass" to that hound...thus, a hound earning the HTX has to receive a "pass" under three different inspectors to be awarded the HTX title. Great Idea! Keeps everybody on the up and up.
If I understand the statement above, not only can the Inspector that awarded a "pass" to that particular hound not accompany me on another inspection of my hound but inspectors that "failed" my hound or any spectators that may have been along for the ride will not be able to inspect my hound at a future HTX event. In addition to that, they will not be able to inspect any other hounds that I may enter at an HTX event.
If I am interpreting this correctly, we are going to need a lot more Inspectors. The smaller clubs will likely run out after two or three hunts.

Thanks for clearing it up for me.

Sam

OK....sorry if that's confusing but that's not exactly what I intended when I wrote that. By saying, "On a given evening...." we intended that to mean that you and another person could not go out together and inspect each other's hounds. Yes, once you receive a pass from an inspector they cannot inspect you again at that level. If you were to fail, they can inspect you again. They may also inspect you again if you go on to the next level. Does that clear it up?

We understand that inspectors may be hard to come by and are trying to be as accomodating as we can but we do need to keep it credible. Thanks for the question. It's good to know what may be confusing cause I would like to address those concerns in the HTX column in CB.

Thanks Todd. I've entered a hound in two hunts so far and really enjoyed it. The folks at the club stressed doing things "the right way" to make sure that the HTX program keeps it integrity.

Most of the pre-turnout conversations (and/or confusion) that I've heard centered around Inspectors. The rules are so simple that questions rarely come up. I did hear one conversation that concerned me. There were several hunters under the impression that once their hound treed a coon, the test was over. There was no need to continue hunting. Evidently, they based their misunderstanding of Rule 2 on the use of the word "shall." The HTX director explained to them that "shall" means "must" be hunted for one hour.

Thanks for clearing it up for me. I'll let you know if I come across anything else.

Sam

I would not think that a spectator would be classified as an inspector and therefore could tag along on another hunt with you. Am I wrong?
