Good question. I've never seen one started past 24 months. I'm curious about the rest of you as well.

Back in 2003 I drew a bluetick that was some ladies lap dog until he was 6 years old and she had to move and get rid of him. The guy that got him said he trained him just like he would have a puppy. 2 hrs later I realized that what I was packing wasn't as nice as the bluetick.

I think you can ruin alot of dogs by starting them too early...but no dog is too old to start. If it's bred into them it will come out....at any age ...provided they are physically and mentally able to put it all together.

George Guinn took a female walker that had been the Witt, Illinois stray for about 4 years and started hunting it. When she was 6 she placed 11th at the pkc world. I think that was about 93 or 94. She had never been hunted to anyones knowlege before George started messing with her.

Took a three year old out tonight for the first time with other dogs, only the second time ever. They treed an old track, almost a layup, and he joined right in. I saw two coons up the tree looking down.

He was almost killed by stray dogs when he was six months old. He still has a spot on his elbow that isn't healed ( he keeps tearing it open) but I've decided to start hunting him anyhow. The vet told me I could if I would clean it afterwards.
