is there a way...

to make my female come out of heat, or to make it so she doesnt come in? she is licking a lot right now, I want to breed her next year or the year after but not right now and kill season opens at 12 am on Sat morning so I dont want her in heat.

thank you!
Lizz

Theyres a shot you can give them but it could mess them up permenantly. Its best to wait and let nature run its coarse.

do you know what the shot is called? I have found 1 vet in the state that knows of anything and that is a pill, but it has to be given to them BEFORE they start coming in, which she is already starting

Some times more harm can be done with that shot. The best thing to do is call the vet and learn about the side affects and possible long term changes to the future heat cycles.

They make a pill called ovaban. I used it once for a big hunt. They said when I stopped giving it. She would come in. Well she didn't. Was 9 months later. Before the pill. She was regular up till 3 yrs old. She's 9 now and it might be 6 months. Might be 9. Might be over a yr when she comes in. I probably want ever give it again. It messed her up. Didn't effect her hunting or anything though.

I dont know the name of it.. its made for pigs... I used it once and my dog didnt come in for 3 years then miscarried 2 litters of pups.. If i were in your situation i would ride it out this cycle and breed her on the next heat.. That will throw her cycle off around 60 days then she wont be coming in til December next year

don't think there is anyway to prevent a female from coming into heat without putting her at some kind of risk... your best bet is to avoid hunting with males and use some vicks. don't turn her loose on the days she's ready to breed, i think thats your only shot of hunting her.

they do make doggie diapers just for that reasoning...has a tail hole and everything...parents put them on their lap dog to keep the house clean.....

not sure how theyd hold up to a hunting dog runnin through the brush...probably wouldnt last long....

weve used vicks vapor rub and vaseline "down there" and didnt have any trouble with males.....but, its not fool proof...shes in heat and can still get bred...that just helps contain/mask the odor.....

Down where on her feet?? LOL just joking. There is a shot that you can give them it is called loutalace I think that is how it's spelled. We use it on beef cattle, can also be given to make the dog abort the pup's if she get's hooked up with a mutt. I wouldn't recomend it though it can cause a dog to have a large litter of pup's.I have used pine tar before it work's good to.Now if you are hunting with other females and you want your dog to look really good use vicks, because if they sniff her and get some on there nose they won't be able to run a track. That can also back fire on you to she might get her nose in it ,then the night is over. GOOD LUCK

When we were running the state race we used a pill called megace. It takes 8 days to take them out of heat. We used it several times with no ill effects. We used the shot on one dog and she was never right again. We will never give one the shot again.

thanks guys! I have only been hunting her with another female (one that I am "patiently" waiting to come in) and the only thing is I just made her NITECH and would like to TRY to get a few wins on her before next years "competition season" she is almost 5 and was never pushed in hunts but I down technically own her so I figured I'd finish her before we decide on a male, I really like the female and I dont feel that we will have any problems trying to grand her out... sept her dang heat cycle lol

I had a bitch back in 87 that I had a freind give a pill to knock her out of heat so I could hunt English Days. It worked. Next near I bred her and she had 18 pups in her and died. I would never do it again.
