I was told sometime ago it's all about #'S. How many dogs do you draw to your regular hunts? 15, 20 ? . 20 dogs is 5 casts, not enough to warrant a qualifier. 50 dogs and up is more like it. The last couple of years UKC has moved qualifiers around. Clubs that had low turnouts lost their qualifiers. Attended a qualifier early this year, they had 15 dogs show up. 4 casts. Wonder if UKC will give them one next year? Years past this same club would send 7 to 10 casts to the field. UKC allows 10 dogs to qualify at these events, meaning only highest plus point cast winner move on to the world. We attented the world hunt for the last 4 years usually with 3 or 4 entries, this year we are sitting it out. We attended only one qualifier getting only one qualified. Couldn't justify the expence to Tenn with only one.
Would love to see some qualifiers in this part of the country instead of traveling hours on the road to attend one. Put these hunts in areas that have a good rabbit population though. Nothing worse than traveling hours to a hunt and can't find a rabbit to run.
Another question to ask yourself, do you have enough running grounds (spots) for 10+ casts to go to the field @ one time, and guides to take them there and back?
