Slug gun

I use my Rem. 11-87 w/ fully rifled barrel. I don't use the expensive slugs and shoots 3in. groups at 100 yards.

H&R Ultra Slug. A little on the heavy side, but I have not shot a better slug gun.

been shooting shotguns since my first deer season over 28 years ago. you dont, i repeat, you dont need a rifled slug barrel for a shot gun. considering the rifling in the barrel and on the slug, does you no good. not much spin on the ball. too many slingers for the weight.
anyways, i have always used a mossberg and i swear by them. no offense, a 3" group at 100yds. is alright. i want a group that punches paper out when they touch at 100.
shooting 2 3/4 factory rems. out of a mossberg, i can efficiently, and i use that word seriously, shoot a pattern that can make anyone shut up at 100 yards. WITHOUT A RIFLED BARREL. the longer the barrel on that one, the more accurate. try it guys. i learned that years ago. saw my dad buy all the fancy dancy and such for a shotgun, even the sabot slugs, good lord he spent a fortune trying to out do me and the old mossberg he bought for me years ago.
he learned a lesson. more is less, more spent and less gotten is a lesson in its self.

slug gun

I like the way mossbergs shoot but when I'm walkig through the cattails or that thick red brush some how that safety gets on fire. The last thing I would ever want to do is shoot one of my friends or family on a deer drive. When I was 13 or 14 a mossberg was all I had the money to buy. Shot alota deer with a mossberg 500. Now for the last 20-some years I shot a rem-870, slug barrel with a rifeld choke. My oldest boy shoots a 870 with a old smooth bore slug barrel. All we shoot is rem sluggers 2 3/4, cheap, 3 bucks a box. Not afraid to shoot 100 yards but most deer we shoot at 10 feet to 50 yards in the marsh, I would find a older 870 they were built better than the new. Fully rifeld barrels shoot expencive slugs that I just can't see spending the money on. JMO

I got a Browning A-Bolt.The gift from a departed friend. They quit making them but I heard they were going to start manufacturing them again. They are not cheap. If you can find a used one once again they are not cheap. They were made with wood and plastic stocks.I don't believe a finer rifled shotgun is or was ever made.Locking lugs like a regular rifle and the one I have is
extremely accurate. 1 1/2" groups and under at 100 yards

Savage model 210 topped with a quality scope. Try 2 3/4
Winchester Partion Gold slugs sight it at 2" high at 100yd
you should be about 6" low 200yd. I have shot a three
shot group of less than 6" at 200yd with mine. (off the
bench) These are the best slug guns I have seen for the
price.(jmo) If recoil is a problem try the 20ga.

If yer shootin thru a rifled choke tube and using sluggers you are hurting your accuracy......u shud b shooting a lightfield sobot in that gun if ya wanna hit milk jugs out around 200 yds. On the other hand your son w/the smooth bore slug barrel wud want to use the sluggers. Sluggers are rifled so you shoot them from smooth barrels.........barrels with rifling wanna smooth sabot slug for best accuracy.

Mossberg 695 Bolt action and remington copper solid sabots. The last ten deer Ive shot were anywhere from 25 - 125yds and only three of those deer went more than 30'. All shot right behind the shoulder.
Only thing about it you best be a man cause it kicks like grandpas old mule. We call it the cannon at deer camp.

lot of good suggestions and thoughts... have been a gun dealer for many yrs. and hunted deer since 1957- 1st il. season with shotguns with slugs..... great improvements in guns and slugs over the yrs.... lot depends on the conditions of where one hunts.... the rifled guns with sabots especially the bolt actions are very-very accurate as are the single shot guns... the gold std.-benchmark are the Tar Hunters-but better be ready to write a check in the thousands for one... personally shoot an old remington 48 that has had the barrel rifled for the traditional foster-slugger type slug- this was done quite a few yrs. ago, it is accurate- more so than I am these days, it shoots winchester slugs best- also the old sw slugs, followed by remingtons than federals... guns will vary as too what slugs will work best... the single shot guns hr, nef, rossi, cva are excellent guns in every way... The mossberg pump slug guns have always been the best seller for me and are an excellent choice in the combo models.. matter of preference for most... the current rifled models will work best with sabots- again try a few to see what is best for a particular gun...

Remington 1100

I have been using my 12ga 1100 with a smooth bore slug barrel for many years. Like a lot of other people on here I shoot the cheap sluggers. I like the results, I would say most of the time when the deer gets away it is not the fault of the gun or the shells.
