I am scared to shock him cause I don't want him to b scared to go out. Right now I don't have a problem with him standing at my feet! So let me know what u think! Thanks

IMO, He's 4 months old let him be a puppy. I don't beleive a 4 month old pup has matured enough mentally and physcially to go hunting at night yet. Glad to hear that your pup is hunting some that young but think of all the things that could go wrong.

I'm with KyKoonhunter32 on this, It is nice to see one go out as young as your pup is but things can go wrong. I had 1 at 4mnths old would go every step with old dogs, but i pushed it and he got knocked off into a slate rock creek and fractured his hip,he was layed up for a long time almost ruined him.

if he was mine i wouldnt be hunting him with other dogs if hes running through the woods barking trying to keep up with them. barking at dogs can become a habit and he might still be barking at them when hes older. i would hunt him by hisself if you want him in the woods, their be a lot of boreing nights but once he goes to treeing coons youll have a coon dog that want need any of this so called help to tree coons.

JMO, but if you were hunting him with dogs slow enough for a four month old to keep up with???????. Are the old dogs on track or he just chasin dogs?
I would let the old dogs get struck and send him in if you trust them.
Let the games begin. I know half of yall will say you will be training a Me too pup.So what? the trick is knowing when to hunt him on his own.4 months ain't it. Unless you want a trasher to break or one to trot around your feet for 8 months.Unless you train a regular bucket pup.

if this is your uglystick pup?

dont worry about him barking. he will quit as he gets bigger. keep takin him on little short 1 drop hunts once or twice a week & let him be a puppy. dont even think about shocking him !! HE'S A BABY WITH DRIVE !! thats the last thing you want to do is take a chance of taking it out of him. your not huntin a dog. your not even hunting a young dog. HE'S A BABY TRYING TO DO WHAT HE WAS BRED TO DO & CANT KEEP UP !!

relax & enjoy him. he wont grow up to be a babbler !! i start these puppies all the time at 4 months. dont over do him. if you ever take the fun out of him goin huntin he'l never get it back 100% !!

i dont care what you read on this machine. most 4 month olds wont get out from under your feet. your one of the fortunate few to have a puppy that wants to get in the country at 4 months old !!

IF THIS IS YOUR UGLYSTICK PUPPY ? HE WONT GROW UP TO BE A BABBLER !!!!! LEAVE HIM ALONE & ENJOY A BABY THAT WANTS TO GO !!

Put him up for a while or take him by himself and let him just get used to going. The older dogs are pulling him too hard.

I agree with intellectualist. He's young, I would just be exicited that he trys to go with the old dogs. Personally I'd lay him up or take him by its self till its a little older before "back barking" becomes a habbit. GOOD LUCK!

Ugly pup

Yes sir Jim!!! Thats the UGLY pup I got off you. I love him to death. He does have all the drive. I am very impressed with him. I just worred about him chasing barking. The other night I took him out and he just kept up with the older dog just fine. But I was just worried if that could turn into a habit.

this works for me. At pup's age they can't do anything WRONG, only the trainer can. Take pup at his/her own pace.

he'l be just fine. if he was a rattle head pup you might have to put him up for a while but he's got sence about him. the smart ones dont just bark to hear their head rattle. no he wont make it a habit. soon as he can keep up he'l quit barkin out of place. your old dog might start babbking to keep up with him !! LOL

keep up the good work with him dennis !!

Some people are worried that it will hurt your tree dogs yea it may slow them down but that will help your pup keep up and without a doubt in the few more months you will see you have a darn good dog i bet you anything

Yeah this pup has all brains !!! You can look into his eyes and see it. My buddie told me the other night for what he is doing and how young he is. That he should be a real deal. I am keeping my fingers cross. But I had to ask about chase barking. I was scared that it could turn into a habit. I've been with people who has babblers and I sure dont want that. But thanks for ur opinion

You might try getting after that old coon that runs about an hour in a beaver pond or other rough place. He will quit it that night if he gets tired enough. If he don't you probably got problems.

You never did say whether the dogs were trailing or whether he was just chasing bucket dogs to a bucket.

No Buckets around here. Just plain old hunting. Send them down a creek line and the older dog treed over to the left of it on the hill side.

some i have hunted with in the past leans more towards saying they have a quick strike dog and have no idea their dog is barking behind the others keeping up and foot racing in general.
