Dc-40

Got my replacement collar today from Garmin. Hope it works better than the last one did. I put it in the yard and drove a mile before it lost connection so that's pretty good. I was using the little antenna and in my truck. I am assuming it has the latest updates already installed.

I wouldn't assume that it has the updates. It may very well not have. Mine didn't.

I would update both the collar and the handheld if it were me. I did when I got mine and both were needing updates.

I haven't had any problems with my DC 40 yet, I'm thinking maybe it was because I updated them both as soon as I got it.

Could just be luck too LOL.

I have had my hand held for going on 4 years and have never updated it. It has always worked just fine. I work for a software engineering company and the one thing I have learned over the years is if it isn't broke don't update it. If you do it will be.

Maybe but we know with the Garmins that they do perform better after they have been updated. Especially with the DC-40's. At least they did with the first go round of 40's.

.

Best way to see if you have the updates on collar is push
<dog>
<select collar in question from list>
<enter> should have information page of collar
<menu>
scroll down list to second item
<identify dog unit>
<select and push enter>
Collar should now flash fast and the operating system information of collar should appear on Garmin Screen.
You should have at least 3.7
3.7 update was an important one for the DC 40's as it shut the collar down after charging and prevented it from draining charge back out of battery.
