Well the best method I know of is TriTronics. I'm sure you will get all sorts of ideas. But this is the best way to go. JMO

Keep the ideas coming , i know tritronics is probably the best way but i like to hear the ideas and maybe help .....One way i have broke more than one dog is by putting a teaspoon of red pepper powder in a bottle of hawbakers no deer from f@t post, and have that bottle ready while training your dog...... when the time comes that he wants to run deer take a shyringe and shoot a few drops up each nostril...take them home and put some in the dog box also in the morning give them a reminder drop or two, beleive it or not ive done this and still continued to hunt bunnies not affecting the dogs line, BUT NEVER do it to a dog thats never been praised for ON GAME...some people would say it was cruel, but i would say id rather my dog not run deer , become lost or hit by a car ect. anyhow it works...... some people can do it for you with their own remedies, tactics options are out there !

I used to take dogs to an Amish guy who took the dog in a barn and came out and garunteed they wouldn't run deer...whatever he did worked but he wouldn't reveal his secret...all I know myself is tri tronics!!!!

I got to agree Tri-tronics number 6 seems to work best. Put the collars on them and drive some back roads just keeping dropping them out when you see deer and let them hunt their way across the track

lol yea thats one downside to it either the shirt on the ground trick n come bck the next day or listen and run.....the best part about running them down is you dont at all feel bad about what your about to do to them, wether its the time of or the day or a week after theyll get the point, However i do agree that tri tronics is the best , i just used this when i was in high school and didnt have a shock system,

Find dear out in a field where it is not likely to find a rabbit. Watch where they go when they run away. Get the dog out and walk him out to where you saw the deer. Let him get out a couple hundred yards from you. After he starts running the deer and you are CERTAIN that he is running the deer, bump him on a 2 or a 3 with your Tri-tronics. He will likely jump off the ground and may even yelp. Those that I have shocked with a firm bump on the collar have quit and come back my way. Encourage him to come back to you. No praise or punishment from you just put him in the truck.

Take the dog immediately to run a rabbit. Having a live trap rabbit is handy for that. Or take him to an excellent spot close by to get a rabbit soon.

After running a rabbit and praise, take him and show him a deer in the field. Let him go investigate. If he sight chases use a stronger shock. He will probably wander out that way to investigate the scent. Let him nose around. If he starts to follow scent bump him again. If he keeps nosing around at the deer scent but is not actively running the scent I still give em another bump on the training collar and call them to me. Usually they smell the scent and come back to me. Very simple and humane way to stop em from the harm that can come from running off after a deer.

Go put them on another rabbit!

Those I have trained off deer have been young and it was done soon after they started it. Very simple and effective process. Dan M

i bought a dog that ran deer one time and it was easy to break them off of it if you have a shock collar. what i did was load the dogs up and ride down the road to a heavily deer populated area and when u see one let the dog out and point it in the direction of the deer. let it go in and start barking and then shock it. i did this and it seemed to work good. i hit a deer a couple weeks later while on the way to go hunting and got my dog out of the box and took it over to the deer and she did all she could to get away from it.

If I was a betting person id say that amish guy had a pet deer in the barn or lot and he prolly put that dog in with it and more than likely that deer beat the ever living snot outta that dog! Ive heard of ALOT of people doing that, they say their dogs never ran deer again but would tuck tail when they smelled a deer and came back to their feet.

The amish probably had a nanny goat! I know some coon hunters up here put there dogs in with a nanny goat and the goat will beat the crap out of them too and make it so they wont run deer
