help hearing your hound ?

can a handler ask another on his cast if a dog barking is his or not?

i am very hard of hearing & cant hear out of my right ear at all. i'v still been hunting the local hunts. if the dogs get deep most times i can hear the dogs but have a hard time telling them apart. some times if dogs strike deep i have to ask if its my dog before i can strike because i'm not sure. or if dogs are just barking every once in a while deep. i'v been asking if its my dog or not. i'v never had anybody ever say anything about it untill the last hunt i was in. judge said i couldnt ask for help. i didnt question his call cause i feel he was right in his decison & didnt ask any more. other handler continued to say his dog or mine when one barked.

now i'm not complaining about this at all. i know the judge & he is a friend of mine & like i said i think he made the right call. i just want to know.

can a handler ask for help or is it time to hang it up ?

I have seen people ask for help.... I would help you if we where in the same cast I like to go to comp hunts to hunt with others its not all about winning to me I want the best dog there that night to win no matter who owns it. it sucks when you draw out with @ss holes who cheat or are just not fun to hunt with..

Get a doctors statement and send it to UKC for OK. Then get some bionic Ears if you only need aids for hunting.

I like and enjoy to win, but I beleive we should all be good sports, and give our fellow hunters a helping hand. I've heard alot of people like the Bionic ear that could possibly help. UKC's Hunt Tests are also a way to put your dog in a hunt and earn a title and are tailor made for any person with physical challenges of any kind.

My experience with this has been if you are losing, it isn't a problem to ask. If you are winning, they may bring out rule 1 " One handler to each dog".

I don't know of any rule that says you can't ask the question, BUT there is nothing that says they have to tell you either. I would have to go with Jim's answer.

I would try to help you till the end my friend but I might be almost as deaf as you, and since I never heard your dog before I might lead you wrong. You wouldn't hold it against me would you?
