Ok Dodge Mechanics

HAVE AN IDEA. how hard would it be to take the 5.9 out of my durango, everything, brain included, and put it into a dodge 2500 that has a v10? motor mounts, i think i might have to change, but i just got an idea.
oh yeah, tranny too, lol. i meant everything but you never know.
the durango is a 2002, the pickup is a 2000

Where do we begin on this nightmare? What kind of Trans are you planning on running? Your 5.9 isnt going to bolt up to a Big Block Trans without an adapter. Wiring Harness is going to be the biggest issue...See what Painless has got going for a 5.9 but you may have problems with it coming together with you body harness in places. Motor Mounts will be totally different and in the wrong place...You will have to cut and weld new ones on the frame. Your Trans Crossmember location will also have to be changed, Then that leads to Driveshafts having to be shortened and lengthened. Must I continue? Ive done stuff like this before, My word of advise is if you want a 5.9 2500...Go buy one that started life as a 5.9 2500. It will be much cheaper and farless blood and tears will be shed in the end.

Mr. Dillon ran everything out of Dodge except the Blacksmith. Ask the blacksmith about the harness and tranny.

So your going to use a half ton trans on an 8 lug truck???That dont make sense...

Redoing Motor mounts are going to be least of your worries....

Its going to require a good place to do this, not a gravel driveway and ALOT of time. Youll need Someone thats very knowledgable in auto electrical systems, someone thats has great welding/cutting skills, 2-3 buddies, and multiple cases of Keystone Light.

If this rolled into my shop it would be a 3k dollar plus job with a 3 month turn around time just to be safe, and I would strongly advise them not too.

If you embark on this please put up a build thread with pics please.

mister c. smith,

hey, motor mounts, i can weld , grind etc. okay. the shebang. i do have buds that can do a better job than me. so, if i took the brain out, with the tranny and everything, like i wrote before., i dont want to hire, i dont want any help than to tell me how hard and maybe problems they would actually know about, besides the mounts i mentioned in my first unread post, i dont think there will a major issue except for choppin and hoppin a driveshaft.

the wiring has got me though. . if i take the brain and every and all wiring with it, it should function like a 5.9 in a durango, right????? or do i have to get some custom gauges from summit??

ps, if all is good , if i decide to do this, i have a good v10 for sell.

i dont think i will have to move the crossmember for the tranny, if i do, i will get a frame spreader and ger er done. already had the tranny out once.

Better question is how many GOOD trannies has Dodge made? I own one right now, so far so good, every other one I ever owned, I replaced.

Good luck with the FrankenDodge.

There were many more...The turboglide was the first one. Then the powerglide, 350, 400, 700, 200. I don't know what they call the six speeds they are using now. Then they got the Allisons.

google engine swaps. you might try pirate 4x4, they have a lot of good posts on engine swaps. some of those guys on there are not very forgiving to the questions you ask. I know you can take it but just letting you know. the biggest answer would be if you have to ask you don't need to try it.
it would be cheaper to just buy a dodge 2500 instead of trying the swap but some folks just like the challenge.

Well it really depends on how much of the body control harness Dodge has implemented into the Engine control harness. Headlights, Speed Sensor on Trans, etc....Find a Wiring Diagram for both and get to it.

But if Kel can 'hop and chop' a shaft and 'spread' a frame a little wiring should be a piece of cake! Couple of cases of Bud light should do the trick. Maybe a little WD 40 and some DUCK tape!!!
